Suffolk shooter
In the last week I am finding the connection constently dropping out for no apparent reason. I have checked all leads, connections, Micro filters and still it keeps doing it. I ran a quick check and it came back pass on everything except USB connection - Down The lead is in both router and PC, took it out and checked with another piece of equipment that the USB port was working, it is. What else could it be? I tried clicking on the BT Help icon only for it to say unavailable at present moment. I have never had a problem until the last week, during which I uninstalled AVG as it was making the machine run miles too slow and I already have other anti virus software. Could it be that in uninstalling that somehow it has inadvertantly deleted something for the router?!?!?!?! Cheers in advance for any advice or solutions. SS PS its done it twice since Ihave been typing this.
myuserid
Thats an ADSL/router isn't it? If it does your ADSL connection and that drops out and also says its dropped it means your ISP or phone line is having problems. I have the same issue at home, very slow and the connection drops out. You could try a netgear or linksys adsl router, but the chances are it will stay the same. Could just be a blip and your ISP will sort itself out. pin
The USB connection on the 2005 series is known to be ****, ditch it and use ethernet (guide here) When the connection drops, does the DSL light flash or go out?
Dave-G
I agree with pin - all my BT voyagers had constant usb connection problems, while my son upstairs would still be on-online via the ethernet. I upgraded to a new 12 month contract on the latest BT Total Broadband and got a home hub which has two ethernet connections... job done. Cheers Pin, The DSL light goes out and then flashes whilst re-connecting. The ethernet light stays on though, not sure if my computer has Wireless capability so will check when I get home and if not can I get one from PC world or similar? THE DISTANCE FROM MY PHONE INLET TO ROUTER WAS TOO LONG AND WAS LOOING SIGNAL. PUT IN A D-LINK WIRELESS ROUTER AT FIRST CONNECTION BOX-SORTED. SS Thats a connection issue then, not the ADSL router. As said above use a different modem, also check the REN on all your phones (normally on the bottom sticker). You should have no more than 4 REN connected to the line.

SS That's not the same issue as the USB dropping out, that's the actual DSL connection bombing out. There are literally loads of different things which could be causing it - the router keeps logs of connection issues which will tell you more, connect to the router in your web browser (refer to the docs that came with it for username/password if you didn't change it). Browse about to find the logs and paste the more recent entries in here. Basic things you can try are eliminating as much house wiring as possible by plugging in the router in at the master socket and see if the same issue occurs. Only opinion really but my guess is it's not your setup if it's just started happening and you didn't change anything in your house - it could well be a problem at your ISP, with the physical phoneline or a failed microfilter...
