I've tried a search and found nothing on here or Google. Thanks guys! I have done this with squirrel tails and it seemed to work ok. Dampen the end that has been cut by dipping it in water then dip it in some normal salt. I left mine for a couple of days and brushed all the excess salt off. It dries it out and seems to preserve the cut end. Tony

I'll give that a try!
Guest The Outlaw
Mine has been done for about 3 years now and is still full of hair. There have to be other ways of doing it but this is so far the only way I know. A K A has done the same, I wonder if his fur is still intact? salisburykeeper
using alum from which you can get from any chemists works well, also helps preserve the fur

Guest The Outlaw
So good you said it twice. Do you put it all over of just the cut bit? Tony
danro
using alum from which you can get from any chemists works well, also helps preserve the fur I've been trying for months to find an alum supplier. I bought some from a chemist many many years ago, but Pompey and Hedge End can't get it. Two chemists have tried ordering specially and nothing arrives If anyone can get alum can you PM me from where? Cheers Danro
taggy
Hi I pulled out as much bone as poss, filled and covered it in salt and sewed the end over. Not seen it for a while, that was 2 summers ago. no bad smells around the house though.
