Lord Geordie
hi all i am after a set of walkie talkies i am running up to much of a bill when out shooting ringing people to see if they are geting any shooting or if not telling them where else to go ect ect do any of u use walkie talkies much if so what ones do u recomend cheers What distance do you want them to transmit and receive over??? If just flat fields and about 2 miles then most PMR radio's will be just fine Short of that then you can get VHF to suit your needs but I think the cheapest I have head of is about £45 per radio and you need to make sure they can obtain the same frequency. A lot of people use Marine band VHF.
auto culto
i use a set from aldi and their the mutts nuts (no idea on the range as they have never not worked). Great to chat from hide to hide and let each other know if pigeon are heading there way.
AdamC
If going down the PMR route, the Entel Euro Wave was always very well rated for the price. There are tonnes of options for it also. I would have thought PMR would be suiteable for what you want in terms of range, I know a couple of people that use PMR when shooting and fishing and seems to be pretty common. This means that any shooters already using 2 way radios are likely to be using PMR, so easy to all hook up and talk. Remember with PMR, everything is restricted to the same power, so what improces range is receiving sensativity, and the Entel is suppose to be very good at that. http://docs-europe.electrocomponents.com/w...66b80033f17.pdf
AdamW
I have these..18 mile range (in an ideal world.. but still very very good range in normal use..) and more can be found here http://search.ebay.co.uk/midland-gxt_W0QQa...gZ1QQsofocusZbs But as they are not legal in the UK I can't recommend them Adam
pin
Costco often have a set, rechargeable batts, charger, 2 sets and earphones for 20 sheets. I have a pair, they are great for the money, range isn't all that but easily a mile and a half I've had them work to
Floating Chamber
These things have come a long way since I used two tin-cans joined with string. I got mine from Aldi.
ph5172
Make sure you get some with built in battery packs or docking stations, as AAA batts are not that cheap and if you use them all the time in a month the batts cost more than the radios, trust a man who knows!!! Argos do a few decent sets

AdamC
Yeah, to be getting that sort of range, they must be chucking out at least 4w of power. As AdamW mentioned they also use a different band to that set aside for PMR in the UK. I bought a set of Binatone PMR's they were cheap and reasonably well spec'd, and are fine for occasional use. We acutally had 4 of these units, first pair bought between me and a friend, but his packed up pretty shortly after. I then bought a pair for myself. If I were to need something that would be used every weekend, I would definatly get the Entel. Not sure if I would order the rechargeable battery pack with it or just buy a Costco bumper box of AAA's. I know in the long run it would be cheaper, but using the 1.5v cells does tend to pack more of a punch than when using rechargeables IMO.
