Just been reading a true story About some of our soldiers who arrived from Afghanistan Xmas eve at B,ham> or should that be Birminghamstanni? airport. where they were told to get dressed into ordinary clothes (OUTSIDE IN FREEZING COLD) before going inside to make there own arrangements to get home.! apparently this is a rule imposed by the airport looneys in charge! Apparently being a member of our armed forces is a sin and it might upset the locals!!!THIS COUNTRY IS A LUNATIC ASYLUM NOW>WHAT OTHER COUNTRY IS ASHAMED OF ITS ARMED FORCES? only Britain, the goverment and the PC brigade has infected this once great land.GOD HELP US. rant over. :good::lol:

Assuming this came out of the Daily Mail, it seems a different story than the one I read.

Their plane was diverted from Brize Norton to Birmingham Airport and they were given the chance to go by coach to Brize Norton (where they would normally change ,hand in their equipment, etc., for their journey home), or make their own way home from Birmingham.

Those that chose to go home from Birmingham had to change into civvies for "security reasons".

The decision was made by the MoD, not Birmingham Airport management.

By all means criticise the MoD for such stupidity, but lets keep it fair.

Incidentally, as we shop and visit the Folkestone area, with its large barracks and contingents of Ghurkas, it is very common to see lots of army personnel on the streets in uniform.

The only "security" issue I can think of, is that it makes people more "secure" to see them there.

Not wearing uniform in public places' used to be common practice. At the height of the PIRA treat; all Service personel were banned from wearing the baggy green skin down town and when traveling in civi cars, coats/jackets etc had to be worn over service dress.

Scenes of squaddies doing impromtu 'Changing Parades' when arriving on camp and exiting their cars' were the norm, then.

QUOTE **The MoD eventually confirmed it has a ban on troops wearing uniform in civilian airports, claiming it was because a small number of airlines ban all uniforms on flights for security reasons.

A spokesman said: "In this case, it appears it was applied a little too rigidly." The policy will now be reviewed. **
