Beardo
what's the average size - height and width of a rabbit's head? just trying to get my head around judging distance
casts_by_fly
not counting the ears or the tip of the nose, I figure a 2" diameter circle. My HMR is sighted +/- 1" on line of sight (not counting the first 10 yards) so I can hold dead on out to 150. Thanks Rick

stuey
We shoot on a golf course amongst other places and often find golf balls lying around, and as a result there are normally a few stock piled in the truck. Any time its a bit quiet, we throw one out and have a bit target practice. Its a good bench mark for the kill zone on a rabbits head. regards Stu
Dave-G
A tennis ball is a near enough size to experiment with your retical for judging distance.
NickB65
To judge distances then use a tennis ball but to practise kill shots use the golf ball......
telf
as said golf/ping pong ball
figgy
Head itself is about 4" from tip of nose to back of skull top of head to under jaw 2.5" to 3" is around average. The kill zone is as people have said ping pong ball. Or anywhere from eye to ear. Edited February 16, 2016 by figgy
malkiserow
Roy Lupton did a film shoot of this subject and ColinLad also did some work on it and a write up on here. If the rabbit is at 100 metres and you are using a .22lr, it might be a bit bigger

sitsinhedges
I seem to recall 2 1/2" from the bottom of its jaw to the top of its head when I used to bracket them with my airgun scope. Same size as a lot of pellet tins which is rather convenient for practising.
