Hi Darren,

 

The basics are the same but you would concentrate on the areas Eug has already pointed out.

 

Not many Springers get to that stage, so usually Labs are preferred

 

Labs are the preferred choice but Springers can make excellent picking up dogs, they just need a lot of work (I have the grey hair to prove it! :thumbs: )

Down here on the thick Devon bramble banks the Labs have a hard day of it. Nothing enters the hard stuff like a spaniel (springer & cocker). Most of the local shoots employ pickers up with springers.

Labs are ok hoovering around the pegs or out on the water, but you can't beat a good springer for covering the rough stuff.
