a pal of mine was asked to shoot some chicken theiveing foxes so he went to the farm had to get it passed by his fao passed it only for a 22 rimmi told my pal to use only ely subs and make clean kill's .so i went along and the land is at the top of a hill 1 feild chicken pen at front of house the house is in its own country lane cul de sac. now only place was to set up was come throu the feild gate on the track where the house is drive striaght down the feild keeping the house to the right of us and set up in the the bottom left hand corner once set up it left the house as a unsafe shot the hedge behind us was not enough to stop the bullet to shoot ahead was unsafe as a rolling hill if he missed he would be passing his shot across a small valley to the neighbours .the other side was a bramble hedge beyound that was the A3 road .after some thought we desided to not bother it was not in our minds a safe place to shoot . my pal is now going to ring his fao and ask him where he thought the shots were going to be safe ? this will be interesting .

Sorry mate, your wordings unclear at start. Did you say your mate went up to the farm to see if it had been passed and then had to ring the feo ?

Just wondering why he didnt realise it wasnt suitable himself when he was there.

Im not been funny or nowt, a genuine question.

When I have the opportunity to shoot on some new land, I always have a good look round first, and I know myself if its safe or not to shoot on, it not hard to tell if its safe or not to shoot on different areas.

you are the person pulling the trigger not the flo so if the poo hits the fan its down to you and you alone. The land has been passed as there is a fox problem and there are normally always methods to gain suitable elevation for safe shooting. Can you shoot from the top window of the farm or high chair ? I,m sure you will be allowed if you make your reasons clear to the farmer. He may be able to help you in your task as farmers are marvelously resourceful. Above all don't make waves with your flo as this will make him more conscious of his decisions when assessing land and say no more often when other land may be safe. Its a daft rule to expect someone to say "this land is safe for ......." when that person is not pulling the trigger themselves but this is the world we live in now. So get your thinking cap on and cap the foxes

I'd say going back to double check will make you look very good. After all, you are showing that if you're at all unsure, you will not shoot. That to me = a safe shooter. Don't make it sound like you don't like his judgement, just ask where he thought it would be ok to fire.

It sounds like you need to create a backstop at this place, or get a very steep angle into the ground. Is there any way you can get the farmer to fill an old ton bag with soil and drop it in the field with his loader? If so you can bait the Fox to stop him in front of the bag, and shoot from prone using the bag as a backstop

1/ i wont be shooting myself in the foot not my permission ? 2/ now if a shotti could have been used we wouldnt be have this discussion ? 3/ and yes he had to get land passed as stated . now he rang his fao and has told my pal it was passed by a deer stalker ? 10 acres if that and a high seat is his only option left for him .i personly told him to forget it . now before the said farmer went bankrupt he had a lot more land and would it be the fao wasnt clear on this ? a little more homework
