rec-baller
just wondering how different people store their rifle magazines,, loaded or unloaded ? if you left them loaded in your safe would it be illegal/// or would it damage the springs ?? shaun
JohnGalway
I always keep mine unloaded to keep pressure off the spring.

miffy
I was under the impression that a loaded magazine was classed as your rifle being loaded even if the magazine wasn't in the rifle and as such illegal. Not sure if this is true or not but i never have mine loaded unless i am in the field Edited November 7, 2008 by miffy

auto culto
Could be true that, I know over here a loaded magazine is pretty much seen as a loaded gun. Well you learn somthing every day  I allways load up the mags and put them in my inside pocket before I leave the house. The rifle is in a slip of course and in the boot. So what your saying is if i'm pulled i'm in the poo .
steve_b_wales
I was told that if you keep a loaded magazine anywhere, when travelling in a vehicle, then the gun is classed as loaded, even if it's in the boot and the mag is in your pocket. Billy.
Loaded usually. Keep them in my pocket because you don't want to be faffing about trying to quickly get a bullet in the gun when you spot a fox plodding across the field you've just parked in! Shootingman
Store & travelling-unloaded, arrive on permission & load immediately, unload before leaving.
scout
Not sure on the legalitise but common sense tells me to keep them unloaded in the safe, then loaded when I arrive at permission ready to go.
Big_Sam
I know its illegal to carry a loaded airifle magazine in public, but not sure if it is for firearms. Common sense says keep it unloaded until you arrive on the shoot. If you are carrying it in your pocket too long there's a good chance the rounds will get covered in grit and fluff. Big_Sam
( a shot gun or an air weapon shall be deemed to be loaded ifthere is ammunition in the chamber or barrel or in any magazine or other device which is in such a position that the ammunition can be fed into the chamber or barrel by the manual or automatic operation of some part of the gun or weapon. A person commits an offence if, without lawful authority orreasonable excuse ( the proof whereof lies on him) he has with him in a public place a loaded shot gun or loaded air weapon, or any other firearm (whether loaded or not) together with ammunition suitable for use in that firearm. (a) loaded shot gun, ( an air weapon (whether loaded or not), Section 37(1) ASB Act 2003 3 0 © any other firearm (whether loaded or not) together with ammunition suitable for use in that firearm, or (d) an imitation firearm. Which is why its legal to walk on roads with an unloaded shotgun between drives.
