Dog Housing

Hey guys, I noticed alot of people here keep dogs and there fantastic companions I was just wondering how many of you keep the dogs in the house (to sleep/live) and how many of you keep the dogs outside ?

 

I dont think in my house having a dog inside would be an option BUT I do have a very good size back yard B)

 

I dont like the idea of keeping a dog outside because you worry that they will be cold, lonely or need something and you wont be there. Although my dads friend who also shoots has a lovely type kennel outside for his dogs and its really top notch.

 

Just wondering if any of you have dogs that are kept outside ? Also how would you introduce a dog to living outside and what are the options ? Obv you couldnt just leave them out lol, what sort of quarters do they have to have to live in ?

 

Also just how much time A DAY do you need to spend with your dog, Im not looking to rush out and get a dog tomorrow lol but just mostly looking for info for a better educated decision in years to come How do you fit the dog around work ?

 

The specific dog in mind would be a GSD. Leaving a dog alone can lead to boredom and a destructive dog so I wouldnt want to do this. How many times would you take the dog out ? And how long could you leave them for, say in the case of going to work ?

my lab pup 12 mth old is out in kennel i let her out around 3 times aday 2x walks and she has big chewy bones and toys in with which she doe's use. her bed is 2t off the ground with a jump up .away from drafts insulated kennel nice and dry she keeps herself busy .noel

So is it ok to leave her alone for a while then ?

 

Like aslong as it wasnt just a kennel but space for the dog to move n play and everything ?

 

What sort of times do you take your dog out Noel ? Appreciate the info mate

My spaniel is in a kennel and run during the day and is in the house or with me whenever I am at home. He doesn't seem to mind and as soon as I open the back door in the morning he goes straight into his run.

 

I walk him for amile or so in the morning and probably twice that in the evening.

Brillaint I think my situation would be alot like yours MC. Feel alot better about it now, although at what age would you move a dog outside ?

 

Surely it would be too cold to keep a pup out in the elements ? You just know that you'd feel sorry for the lil fella (N if you didnt one of the women in the house would lol )

 

Also what are your runs like ? How big are they ? What do you use to keep the rain off and what do you use for the dogs bed ? cheers guys

My Springer was outside from about 3 months old although we got him in may at 8 weeks old so it was the summer time while he was first outside.

 

His run is basically an 8 foot x 6foot shed with 2 sides of it are wire mesh cut from heras fence panels like the ones they have around building sites.

 

He then has a traditional dog kennel positioned within this as a sleeping box and it is positioned to keep any wind out. As for bedding I have a supply of blankets from a local charity warehouse and I give them 25p per blanket. he has about 3 or 4 inside his kennel at any one time. When they get wet or too dirty I change them. I also use them in his box in the back of my car.
