gav Posted November 9, 2008 Report Share Posted November 9, 2008 well going for me vasectomy pre op tommorrow and im ****** it ! i have had trouble convincing the quack that at 29 with 4 kids by 2 different women that i dont want anymore ! but well he agreed that i could have it done ! so im off in the mornin to a surgery 40 miles a way to see the geezer doin it ! with a view to havin it done next week before i go to disneyland !! cant decide whether the oh should get me a new gun or i do fancy a lurcher / whippet pup for havin it done ! any of you guys had it done ? does it hurt ? will i be off work for long i get in and out the car alot and drive alot ! will i be able to walk the dogs ? amateur Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 The only advice that I can offer - 30 years later - is choose your surgeon with care. Like most skills involving dexterity, practice makes perfect. So ask how many vasectomies he has done. I had mine done by a middle-aged genito-urinary specialist consultant, was back at work the next day and have been trouble free ever since with no problems at all. A mate had his done by a young general surgeon registrar who had only done a couple before, so my mate had balls the size of grapefruit and was off work for 2 weeks!!! I drove to Birmingham the next day, and apart from a little discomfort from the stitches until they were removed, no problems at all. I seem to remember that close-fitting underpants were a must. amateur Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 Certainly less hassle than a succession of babies, or your wife having to have her tubes tied, or her having to keep on taking the pill for 30 years, or her having bits of plastic/wire inserted, or relying on fragile, passion killing, unreliable rubber. Yep had mine done and no real problems. It was not a pleasant experiance but it did not hurt. The lad in before me acctualy rode home on a bike after his op, now I'm not suggesting I would want to do that but there was no pain, itwas just uncomfortable. All the best taz . steve_b_wales Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) Had mine done 8 years ago. The surgeon was a 'learner' and did not wait until his mentor turned up. He made a complete mess of it all. Started to cut me and the local anaesthetic did not work. I felt the knife twice. In the end I was given a general anaesthetic and ended up with about 9 stitches. Absolute agony for two days resulting in me being rushed back into hospital with internal bleeding. On the bright side, I sued the NHS for negligence and got a few bob off them! Andy W Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) I had mine done privately in 1990, on the way back I stopped off at the builders merchants for a bag plaster, spent the weekend and had the Monday off work to get my extension finished, went back work on the Tuesday and burst my sticthes open whilst bending copper pipe with a stand bende, took months to heal then. The only draw back I found was once its done and healed you can feel hard lumps at the end of the tubes which they cut which can make identifying cancer lumps difficult, I went that route earler this year but it turned out to be a cyst, also your nuts seem to be more sensative if knocked. All the above is my experiences only, a guy at work had it done and was a right mard *** about it. Oh and my sticthes were the type that dissolved. But when they give you the anaesthetic, make sure your knackers are dead to the world before they start mucking about . He got us together and asked if we din't mind both having the briefing together to save him going through it twice. We were fine with that so he first asked which of us was having a general. I said I didn't realise it was an option and the other guy said he didn't realise having a local was an option. I felt a bit concerned about this. I was in first and after the op got wheeled back the the day ward to a nice cup of tea and some toast . He turned up about half an hour later looking like a vegetable. When I left, walking out in my tight pants feeling fine, his wife had managed to sit him up in bed and was giving him orange squash from a Tommy Tippee sipper mug. I don't think he noticed my rather chipper 'Cheerio' as I left! I was in the pub having a well earned lunch and a few pints less than 2 hours after the snip. I bet he wasn't! I felt the first incision and complained and was told that was impossible and he just carried on, felt like he was using mole grips, longest 10 minutes of my life………… Spent the next two days in bed due to bad swelling and I did not want anyone near me, I was black and blue and could not work properly for two weeks. If I had been given a choice of a local or general anaesthetic I would have taken the general any day as it’s not a pleasant experience.
