what cartridges are yopu using on pigeons/rabbits

 

i was looking at gamebore clear pigeon 30g # 6 are they any good ??

That's what I've been using for a while now, must have gone through couple of thousand, they do the job for me and don't leave much **** behind in the barrels, pay about £28-£30 per 250

I've used them before and there not a bad shell.

Over christmas I was using Lyalvale Express Game 7's 32g and they were pretty good.

Gamebore Supergame in the green case are OK as well, I've used 1oz (28gm) 7's and 1 1/16 (30gm) 6's, prefer the 1oz 7's.

 

Hull three crowns and Eley Impax also good. Going to try Eley VIP as well soon.

I use the 7 1/2 28g gamebore supergame when I'm decoying and they are also a good shell.

great cartridges clear pigeon or kent velocity same thing different writing on the case and box. great i sell em £100.00 per thou for 32g plas 6 shot kv and £106.00 CP 30g 6s felt.

I've started buying from a local (to me) manufacturer - Caledonian Cartridges. I've been using their photo-degradable plastic wad which should keep the farmers happy. Cartridges seem to be OK but I must admit you could probably give me any old thing and I would be able to tell you if it's good or bad.

 

Before those I used Gamebore Supergame, the same as Chris and before those I always used to use Clear Pigeon.

 

I couldn't really fault any of them - I just prefer to buy local if at all possible.

I use game bore clear pigeon and I'm happy with them but then again thats the only cartridge I've used, apart from the odd ones I've been given.

I've just baught a box of express AAA for fox shooting. (is that a good choice ?)

Gamebore supergame 32gm 6`s in the semi and clearpigeon 30gm 6`s in the o/u..........KIPPER......try patterning the AAA`s and that will tellyou if it`s any good as it will kill a fox no bother but the pattern may be too gappy at longer range.

Hi,

I am currently using the last of a batch of Caledonian cartidges. I can't hit a thing with them.

 

I am looking at changing to cartridges that my mates use. One used Eley Hawk best Pigeon and has doen for a couple of years through his Fabarm S/A and swears by them.

 

The other uses Clear Pigeon 32's for rabbits and pigeons, he swears by them.

 

What is everyone else using and what do you reckon to the Hawks?

I have been using eley hawk best pigeon 6 1/2 32 grm for about 4 yrs now and wont use anything else, thats just my opinion...

i use rotwell mark2 30 size 7 for pigeons because they are very fast and i get very good patterns with them at a decent range so they are perfect for pigeons however i find they are not so good for rabbits so i use size 6 30 gram for them the best cartriges i have found for anything are either express supreme game or rio royals

I try to use clear pigeon 30g 6's all the time,they're a cracking cartridge,if not i find Express Special Pigeon 32g 6's a v.good substitute,a bit more **** in the barrels but they are cleaned after every trip anyway so why worry.

I've never gone wrong with Ely Hawks pigeon 6 1/2's. They do the job well.

I also like the Rottweil 30g MK2 6.5 shot. Cost about £100 per 1000 so nice and cheap.

 

Also Hull Sterling Game 32g fibre 5 shot.

Viri 30g 7's.

RC Sipe, JK6 and Caccia are all good.

 

I prefer the foreign brands to the likes of Eley, Gamebore and Express.

I sell gamebore and this week they have written to me saying their prices have increased by £15 per thousand. When one goes up they all go up.

Try kent Velocity 30g or 32g plas 6 shot by gamebore its a clear pigeon in a different box with diferent writing on the case and cheaper ( same powder , wad and lead, case and primer. £113 per thou at the new price this was from the 1st Feb.

 

If ya want to spend a little try RC Sipe plas 5 or 6 shot 32g these hit seriously well at long range £135 per thou at the moment.

funny you should say that. I bought 1000 Eley HB pigeon fobre 32's the other day for £103.00 However the shop owner told me I had caught them just in time as all cartridges were going up.

Hmmm, we've calculated that we need to shoot 3 pigeons per cartridge to break even, that's just on cartridge prices against game dealer buying price so no allowance for travel and aggro from the T&S !!!

Hull Cartridge High Pheasant 30gm 7's Plastic wad take some beating, but they are a bit pricey. Otherwise the Hull Special Pigeon 32gm in 6 shot, go nicely in my S/A. When the AYA game gun is out I like the Express Standard HV 28gm in 7's.

I personally don't think you can beat rotwell mark 2 hv 30gram / rio royals 32gram and exspress supreme game

I like Hull Sterling Game, fibre wad 6s, 32g. The bu**ers seem to stop just about anything!

 

Not cheap though, around £135-00 per 1000.
