Pigeons without a magnet?

I agree with Lancashireunter. Fieldcraft will get you pigeon in most situations.

A guy called Archie Coats (remember him) always said good recconaissance is never wasted and he was right.

The magnate is a good invention, as are all the other aids, but how do you think big bags were shot before the gadgets appeard? I have been shooting pigeon many years and had some terrific bags PG (pre gadget)

Gadgets can make you lazy so beware. Besides, planning the 'campaign' is a lot of the fun.

Best thing is to get out there and try with whatever you have. I like the magnet, flapper bouncer etc. A friend of mine has none of these toys the other day I shot 67 using toys but he shot quite a few just with plastic shells sitting straight on the frozen ground.

Have a try, read some books like Archie Coats and better, John Batley. There are some good posts on here if you do a search.

Good luck

Thanks for the response to my original question everyone.

I bought the John Batley book as an early Christmas present, good reading.

I don't think I'll be spending the money on a magnet yet, I think I need to spend more time

sussing out flight lines and experimenting with decoy set ups first.

I'll probably try to knock up some sort of floater with wings and a tail on one of my

full shells too.

Thanks again,

Nial.
