Hi  I'm a newbie.

I'm 20 years old, and have a strong interest in country sports, though unfortunately i have yet to experience shooting or other sports , due to anti parents and lack of resources.

I've booked up next saturday with Strathblane Falconry for a full days hawking.

I can't wait  a day flying at rabbits with Graham from the falconry centre, a nice harris hawk and some ferrets.

I'd actually booked it two weeks ago, but unfortunately the weather left a lot to be desired, 100 mph gales , hailstones and heavy rain.

Hoping the weather on the 29th will be better.

Does anyone have any tips on what to expect, what to wear etc.

I'm planning to go twice a month if i have a good experience(i don;t doubt that i will)

I;d like to become involved in other sports to, deer stalking, wildfowl, pigeon and fox shooting, not forgetting pheasants.

I'll be joining the CSA and BASC, but any advice on how a beginner can become involved in such sports would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi SL, I`m based at Perth and my friend had a day at Braco for a birthday present and previous to that he had never had anything to do with field sports......he`s now smitten and has hawks, ferrets, guns etc.etc. So dig deep into your pockets and be prepared to be in deep smitt  ...and by the way....WELCOME TO PW.

Welcome to the forum S.L.:lol:

You will have a great day .. just go and enjoy the experience.

All you will require is a good pair of boots or wellies, wind proof coat and trousers.

(hat is optional but a good idea if it's cold)

Take a camera with you but don't forget to ask permission to take pics :*)

You may find it a bit of a struggle if both of your parents are anti ??

Good luck :/:)
