Larsen Traps

Has anyone any experience of making a larsen trap? Can anyone give me guidance on making a larsen trap? Or give me useful sites that will give me guidance?

I'm planning to make one when I'm back home for my easter holidays. I know I could just buy one but I want the satisfaction of catching corvids in my own home made trap.

Cheers Ollie

A few tips for anybody starting out with Larsen Traps:

* Keep them well away from footpaths, or any areas frequented by Joe Public, who will release the call bird and wreck the trap, 'cos they don't understand.

* Elevate the trap if possible a couple of feet off the ground, on a bale or branches, or whatever, as most birds will then settle on top of the trap, and not keep walking around it.

* Make sure that the call bird is kept well fed and watered EVERY DAY, and that he can hop from one perch to another, (very important as it is the movement of the call bird that attracts others in).

* If you need to keep foxes away from the trap, **** all around it, i'm told by RJimmer that it keeps Charlie at bay.
