My mate over the road has a lovely little staffy. Not a guard dog as such but she does bark when needed if she hears someone outside the house who shouldn't be there. As do my two collies. She is as soft as hell yet I wouldn't trust my kids round her...I also wouldn't trust my kids round anyone elses dogs though. Tia is a lovely bitch and loves playing. All she is interested in is who will throw her ball again. :hmm:

Personally i'm not a fan of staffies, not because they could be dangerous, but because that breed doesn't appeal to me, just the same as golden retrievers dont. I like border collies because I was brought up with them. Not because they make good guard dogs/status symbols of how hard an owner is etc etc etc...

I said can you find a story of a labrador killing a child in the UK. Not France not USA not Ireland THE UK.

df

Second!

Any dog is dangerous as another when feral, but I'm pretty sure you'll find so called ''trained'' dog attacks, mostly happen with fighting breed dogs (Such as staffs)

what does it matter what country their from :yp: are french or american dogs a different species to u.k ones :drinks: now your just being pedantic.

ok, not a death of a child but you dont have to search far to find that ANY breed will kill.... even those that belong to them with the moral high ground...

is that fact or your "educated" assumption ?

if were going on assumptions, id guess that the smaller, lap dog type snappy breeds like yorkie's, jack russells, chiwawa's etc etc attack much more frequently then any "fighting breed", as we've already made clear, a staff could do more terrible damage if it attacked, but they are less likely to snap then other breeds.... frequency being the issue not resulting damage...

my point is simply that.... the breed on the whole is not by nature nasty and demonic as the media would have you believe... their just not... the description of the happy dog above is just like ours... eager to please and always with its ball in its mouth... :hmm:

And where have you or where can I find the facts that Staffordshire bull terriers are the nanny dog or is that going by assumptions?

Any dog can attack but why go for the ones that is most likely to kill if it does attack?

nanny dog... first site i googled, not any preferance for this site over any other...just the fisrt one i came across....

http://www.iams.co.uk/dog-breeds/stabulte/List#bname

http://www.iams.co.uk/dog-breeds/stabulte/List#bname

other uses than fighting (similar to other beloved gun/country sport breeds)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat-baiting

your just not even looking are you?

look, i do agree... if they were to attack they can cause real harm... the issue is the likley hood of them attacking...people are all to keen to believ that they WILL attack at any given opertunity and that just isnt the case...most, balanced and trained staffs are just as any other dog is..happy go lucky...the irony is the fact that the breed is genuinley really good with kids. the few awful incidents which have gone to make an exception have done the breed alot of harm.... but dont rule out the fact that alot of folk see the andrex pup, go out and buy a lab or retriever and end up getting bit by a big dog...

a staff, is not quick to pick a fight...

whats your point ? its a terrier and was bred for its terrier instincts the same as many other terrier breeds... reguardless of weather its cut out to kill a badger a fox or a rat, they all of the same ilk....

can you not see that ?

explains why my dog was attacked.

what does :good: is there not a chaznce on earth that any otrher breed of dog may have been happening to come along that day? granted, the breed can be intollerant of other same sex dogs, but many dogs are like that, and it can be trained out of them to a degree... if not, the owners can and should act responsibley... keep them on a lead etc etc....

we established that many other large breed dogs can and have killed, even the unsuspecting ones like labs.... so why does the stafford breed get such bad press....
