Tuning by BSA Lightning XL .22

Hi gentlemen.....and ladies

I have got a BSA Lightning XL .22 and thanks to lightningxlDAZ suggested a bit of a tune would do the rifle the world of good!?

The rifle is a little springy and got it tested and its shooting at 10.25 ft lb's at the max.....the gun makers said he would not alter the spring etc as he thinks that is ample and altering it would take it over 12 ft lb's?? :good: .

I was not looking for loads more power just less springy and noisy.....

So now looking for someone who does this and how much it costs? I would rather a shop of someone with heaps of experience? Anyone know of anyone?

welcome to pw.10ftlbs is ample power to drop a rabbit at 35yards.lightnings are snappy on firing.rather than chasing the power get a tuning specialist[sandwel fieldsports or v max]to reduce the snapyness andgeneraly smooth out the firing cycle.this will help more than 1ftlb :good::good::yes:

 Great thanks!.....any idea on costing.....or what i should expect to pay?

More then you payed for your rifle if you have ste do it or 70 odd for a self tune which don't make much difference.

10ft and little more is the standard coming out of bsa and in 22 you should put em on the back side's out to 30 so I'm guessing John at bsa told you that?

He is right and 177 will take em out to 45 if your a good shot and know your stuff may be a little more.

Ok all my mate's and my self have all bsa and all have a bsa lightning.

your option's are,

john bowkett 80 last time I remember for a blue print which is a waste as it don't make much differ and he wil admit that.

my choice is gas ram but getting one for the right money can be a problem.

my lightning is at 10ft in 177 and is smoother then my mate's gas ram so wearing in is essential,177 should be the harder kicker but ive found my other mate's 22 tactical kicks way harder and I think it might be due to the tactical stock being so light and hollow.

awt silencer's for the gas ram but they will rob you and charge double what they actuall ar so you need to go on hunting life and place a wanted and donnyc will reply and post you one for 45 quid.

gas ram is your best option.

by the way your in the wrong section, this would get more replie's in the air gun section I assure you.

I agree with the man that these guy's ste and tony are the best in the business but 80+ for 1ft/ibs is not worth it my eye's.

You may just need to get it serviced and I would advise you service you self as that is around 70 at the factory unless you know them.

If it is new just get a few round's threw it and I assure you it will settle down.

In my opinion the best springer on the market for the money and apsolutely bomb proof and I say that as my mate's had his about 8 year's and it has only had the gas ram put in and never serviced.

you wanna see how he treats, just a tool to him, walking stick, bush beating and the thing never miss's a beat.

Speak to sandwell field sports. They will give you a price and options on power .My 80k is booked in there and a tune is £125 on my .177 so well worth the money as its not just about ft lbs when they tune your rifle

If it hasn't been tuned by now my guess is it never will be....:good:

Is that a record ? An over ten years old thread dragged from the depths

Funnily enough ive just detuned my, new to me, bsa lightening tactical xl in .22 as it was running at 12.7 fpe with hobbys .

2 coils off and its a sweet as a nut at 10.7 fpe. Perfect for me.

That's a coincidence. I've just bought exactly the same gun.

And I love it too. Haven't tested power yet, but it's really nice to shoot and that synthetic stock is comfortable. I'm more accurate with it than with my other springers.

It only cost 120 posted. And it doesn't need any tuning.

I had an older Lightning which had been Welsh Willy tuned. It was just as nice to shoot as my current Lightning.
