You know what I hate most? That they tell us it's for our own safety, like they're doing us a great service. I hate the ruthless enthusiasm they have for pursuing and penalising every offender they can, despite the fact that FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE CRIMES, THERE IS NO VICTIM! Yet if you call to report drug dealing, theft, assault, vandalism, criminal damage, you'll be lucky if they send out a Community Support Officer on a bicycle.

 

I hate that the Government have turned the Police Force into tax collectors. I hate that The Government has disempowered the Police Force to the extent that they're powerless to do anything about gangs of youths who spit on them and continue to terrorise their communities. I hate that parents bleat about those youths' rights rather than slippering their a**ses until they bleed. And I really hate those freakin' scootery moped things they ride.

 

Sorry - I seem to have gone off the rails. I hate motorway driving too.

There were a couple of cameras on a speed restricted area on my local stretch of motorway, caused nothing but tailbacks and accidents untill they were switched off. I wonder how much revenue they made for the gov. while they were active :)

Im not even sure they work to be honest and i have good reason as well because i work in a car insurance company and every time i speak to a client that has an SP50 (about 25 a day) which is a motor way speeding offence i always ask how they got it and never once in all the years i have worked here have had some one say from an average speed camera they always say either the vans that sit on the bridges over looking the motor way or been tugged by a panda car. But then again by the sounds of it they do there job with out costing money to run them or even put real cameras inside them after all it made half of you lot travel at the right speed :)

Not arguing with you, but i think that's the single greatest cause for complaint - without taking into account the amount of traffic, the road and weather conditions, lighting, factors external to the road etc, how can you say what the 'right' speed is? In some circumstances it's perfectly safe to drive far above the legal speed limit and you'd be fined, possibly even banned; in other circumstances you could recklessly endanger the lives of others and get away with it because you were within the legal speed limit. It's an unfair system which (in my opinion) makes no difference to safety on the roads, but makes (or saves) a huge pot of cash for the Government which they presumably use to fund second homes and porny movies.

The police debate on this topic is an interesting one too.... The police argue more people are killed and injured on the roads than to murder and general crimes in the uk. Thus there concern for targeting motorists......

 

And the fact it is alot easier to do than chasing criminals!!!!!

Eh?? What a totally bonkers argument! I stand to be corrected of course, but my hunch is that the death rate per murderer is quite a bit higher than the death rate per motorist.

there is always one that has to play on wording OK THEN THE LEGAL SPEED

The forward facing cameras, Talivans and ANPR vans can't touch the hallowed motorcyclist, neither can congestion charging cameras thus far. :good:

I was told they had planned to make the camera systems able to read forwards and backwards facing number plates. When they computed the expected number of bikes and revenue raised v the cost of the updated camera systems and technology the idea was shelved (for the time being) as not delivering value for money, so only those with forward facing number plates have to pay for now.
