hi all

does anybody know if there is surposed to be a o ring on the gas cylinder of a symthetic stocked escot

the paperwork that i got with the gun shows one but thats on the wood version.

the setp is slightly different on mine.

ian

Yes mate.

If the O ring is not on then the thing will not cycle correctly.

Do you mean the O ring that sits on the magazine tube to seal the gas port onto the magazine tube?

Yes there was on mine.

yes thats the one.

where does it sit?

on mine the gas piston is attached to the gas cylinder then another part is fixed to the fore-end and the there is the screw cap.

Best to carry a spare O-ring round in your shooting jacket, their easy to change if it goes.

I had a guy out at the geese this last season and his went after the first shot one morning. He had to sit and watch his mates shoot all the geese!!

As far as the manual says im sure its only the wooden stocks that use the o ring not on the synthetic?I maybe wrong tho..

Indeed you are mistaken....... The O ring sits on the Magazine tube and seals the barrel gas port onto the mag. tube so that all teh gasses go into driving teh piston back and cycling teh action.

This applies to all models of Escort.

Remember the manual is translated from Turkish, in places badly

..... Simpuls.....

(post #6 above is perfect illustration).

Yes the transaltion is quite something anyone make sense of the "secret code" or locate the "two notches" as at some point I will need to strip the gun down for a good cleaning.

Tungsten,

If you remove the barrel and take the stock and action (you will need to push the button to allow the action to slide forwards if you have not done so already) and put your thumb on the face that the firing pin comes out of and apply slight pressure you will see the action moves slightly befor the cocking handle does, basically pull on the cocking handle lightly as you apply pressure with your thumb.

and as for the o-ring- it is the last thing to put on before the barrel goes on.

is the piston surposed to come out of the cylinder because it dosent on this one

what i need to know is the piston surposed to be stuck so to say in the cylinder.

there is movement on it but dosent slide out and i dont wantto try forcing it.

there is however a o-ring inbetween the metal piece andthe plastic of the fore-end.

in the pic you can see a silver metal spring ring,if that is removed you take out the metal end and see

the o-ring.but this would be hard to remove in the field to replace.

the piston should come ourt of the barrell....give it a tap from the top, you'll probably find that the o-ring has perished and is jamming it in there.

thanks gixer1.

pistonisnowout of cylinder no o-ring and caked solid in burnt residue.

should the piston be tight but slide smoothly.

Yeah, you are better putting the piton on the mag chamber then putting the barrell on (as apposed to putting the piston in the barrell and then putting both onto action/stock.

You'll probably find that the "crud" if inspected is the mashed up o-ring, i was using my escort for geese this year and the heavy cartridges ate an o-ring.

thanks guys

the piston goes into the cylinder nice now.took over half an hour just to clean it.

now just need to get some o-rings.

cant grumble to much only paid £100 for it because it wasnt cycling proper.

dont think it ever been cleaned.taken nearly 4 hours to completely strip and clean it was that dirty.

thanks again all

Ian
