Most over and under shotguns ARE boxlocks, so you can rest assured that they are suitable for both clay and pigeon shooting.

Sidelocks tend to be of a more exclusive nature, and due to the way the locks are fixed onto plates on the side of the gun (hence sidelocks) they are easier to set up with a perfect trigger pull.

In the main sidelocks tend to be more expensive than boxlocks, but having said that a good boxlock will always be better than a cheap sidelock.

As you can see, a sidelock is very special when it is done right.

What is meant by a boxlock gun? Are they any good for pigeon and general shooting?

Hi, You'll find a good boxlock is about the same in price as a cheep sidelock

Its said the sidelock balances better and tends to be slimmer at the wrist,

I think you will find its more down to personal preference and funds available on purchase

IMOP you should try a few different guns to see what you get on with,

you can still win competitions with a £100 shotgun or a £50,000 Boss & co at the end of the day a shotgun is two tubes with a bit of wood on the end

heres a nice cheep "Ugartechea" Boxlock just to show the difference in appearance
