now although I had a gat, then a heanal, and an airsporter in the 70s, apart from using an hw77 a few years ago I had not really been into airguns! then I got a bit of rabbit shooting and took a liking to airgunning for them (now have 5 pure airgun bunny shoots?)so like you I looked for a gun picked a webley raider up 2 shot .22 in truth I couldn't really fault it but I fancied a more "in vogue" gun so I opted for a daystate x2 again nice enough but I found it inconsistent so I got hold of an HW100 at a price I couldn't refuse! fantastic gun BUT heavy (I am getting to the point)

having now gone the FAC route into airguns I bought a standard MK1 rapid with the intention of upping it to fac when my ticket came through fell TOTALLY in love with this gun so much so I went and bought another (one for NV use only)

paid 385 for 1st gun and 400 for the second both where MINT had I known about airguns at the outset I would have saved myself a small fortune on 3 guns that I didnt really need? take your time and shop about look on BBS regularly and GET a rapid you will never regret it?

cheers Keith

hi Claws,

stay well away from the S-16! as has been said its very prone to jamming admitedly a user error as its very easy to put two pellets up the sppout if the bolt isnt returned properly yhe first time.

And the only other rifle not to touch would be the gunpower stealth, just go a search on gunpower or stealth to find out why!

Apart from those two all the others are pretty damn close to call on accuracy and relaibility.

But seeing as your goingto be using it mainly for a bit of pest control i dont tink there is any point in considering a spring rifle as they are a lot harder to shoot accuratly (though it is posible with a lot of practice!)

Top of the list for me would be:

Theoben Rapid (not as accurate as some but accurate enough for a bit of bunny bashing) + loads of shots per charge!

Air Arms S410/S400 accurate for any form of shooting!

Daystate harrier X basically the same as the S410

S200 very light weight though is a little on the plas5ticy side if you get a MK2 MK1 are better if you can get one.

But as i said there isnt much to choose from once you have decided PCP they are all pretty much even.

it really would be worth a day trip to your nearest club to play with as many rifles as possible as what suites one person may be totaly wrong for another.

Hope this helps you out a little

 where did you get those prices from? they enough to scare anyone away LOL

Found all the above prices on a well known retailers web site.

As you said you didnt need a scope have put the rifle alone cost down. and even if you do need to add a scope to a package you should only be looking at an extra £50 for scope and mounts

all the best

For that sort of money, a self contained rifle would be best, maybe a BSA lightning, or a weirhauch HW95K. I've used both with success.

a PCP would be ideal, and if I had the money to spare, I'd definitely be buying one soon, especially as I've just been given the run of another farm to shoot bunnies!

I friend of mine has a BSA Superten MK1 and that the most consistent air rifle I have ever used. It looks revolting, but is a dream to shoot. I would imagine that a Rapid is the same, only better!

For the money you want to spend, get a springer.

And make sure you use top quality scope mounts...its easy to forget such basic things!

This is too darn complicated.

The list is down to:

  • Air Arms S400/ S410 - £314-£429 depending on beech or Thole walnut
  • Air Arms S200 - £250+£60 for 10shot mag add on
  • BSA Hornet - £475 multi shot version
  • Thoben Mk1 Rapid - £655
  • Webley Raider - £239
  • Daystate harrier x2 - £525

So Ill phone round a few gun shops to see if there are any about second hand in good nick. None of these make good FAC guns do they?

There are a few second hand guns.

Air Arms S410 £400 with scope, logun moderator.

Another for £695 with scope, silencer, 10 shot mag & pump.

Air Arms S400 £240

Air Arms S200 £200 no scope and no pump. mint.

Logun Mk2 something £485

Are these good prices? I'm not sure what sort of prices I would be expecting to pay second hand. Obviously depends on condition.

Hi,

I own a Rapid mk1 in 2.2 and I've just traded my Webley Axsor 2.2 for a Air Arms s410 classic in 1.77,and to be honest with you I wish i'd had done it a long time ago.The only reason I'm keeping the Rapid is to have it upgraded onto f.a.c.I cannot fault the S410 at all.I'm also now a great believer in if its sub 12ft/lb then go for 1.77.

I popped round to the local gun shop to see a second hand .22 Air Arms S200.

It comes with an Air Arms moderator and there is not a mark on it. The action is perfect and it looks as if it has never been used. They say for £200 quid they'll give me a years warranty against defects and theyll throw in the adapter to fill it up but it doesnt come with a pump or mounts.

For a Bisley pair of mounts will cost me £7.00 but these only have 2 allen screws on each. £11.00 for the ones with four allen screws.

I said I could buy a new one for £50 more including postage but they would'nt budge on the price in the least. I suppose it would cost me about £40 additional to that to buy a silencer if I were buying one new.

My dad has a compressor for spraying cars and I was wondering if you could use this to charge it up to save me spending £100? its got a pressure gauge on it.

Are these good guns? I realise that you get what you pay for but are these accurate? I read a review on these and someone said that the barrel on theirs kept falling off! They dont have a safety catch on them either which is abit daft.

i own an air arms S300 and find it really well made and deadly accurate, it will put pellets through one hole at 30 yrds if no wind is blowing, when rested. i believe the s200 is just as good althought lighter so easier to carry around. i doubt you will be able to use a car compressor to fill though as you need pressures of up to 200 bars and most compressors are only 10-30 bars.

the S200 is a poretty decent riflew i owned one a couple of years ago and sold it as i was bored hitting the drawing pins and staples down the range (before i had permision)

if its a MK1 snap his arm of and grab it as the MK1 is slightly better build quality than the MK2, and its easy to tell the difference.

MK2 lots of p[lastic bits: Bolt, trigger, dust cap and it also has a barrel clamp at the end of the fore grip/stock.

why would you want to spend anopther £50 ona brand new rifle when this one is as good as new AND with a 12 month warentee!!!! (only a 12 month garantee on a new rifle by air arms).

when it comes to mounts and scopes it normally a personal choice i have used single screw two peice mounts and double screw two piece mounts on a PCP rifle i dotn notice any difference, But no matter what mounts they are they always get checked before going to the fields.

The only problem i have heard about with the S200 was on the MK2 where the bolt retaining bit snapped, bu5t i have never heard of a barrel falling off one :)

As for using a comercial/hobby compressor dont even think about it i think these go up to about 50 bar (nmo idea what that is in PSI) most rifles need a minimum of 100 bar to be asble to shoot a couple of shots and a full charge would be up to 190BAR on the S200, so it would have to be the specialist p[umps or a divers bottle.

In my opinion you cant go far wrong with the S200.

I didnt realise that there were two models so I wasnt looking out for plastic. I did notice that the bolt was plastic but I'm pretty sure the trigger was metal.

What do you mean a barrel clamp at the end of the foregrip?

I was just feeling to see if the price was fixed or not. If you dont ask, you dont get! :)

I know there is a 10 shot magazine system available for it and you can retro fit a steel bolt. Are the plastic bits the only difference?

I have a S16 unshrouded version and although this is my first PCP after having had a HW77k for the last 15 years , I would have to say that my S16 is a excellent rifle and the more people slag them off the better buy you will get, forget all the problems they have 99.9% are user error anyway if you like it buy it is what I say. If I had listen to all the hype about these guns on various FORUMS I would not have bought one so just goes to show is a personal choice, and the BUNNIES hate it LOL LOL LOL. And as far as LEMON goes that's for a Gin & Tonic isn't it?:(  :(

Cheers

So you've never had any problems with yours then?

People slag them off but I have yet to hear ANY problems people who own them!

All the bad press has come from people who met someone down the pub who's mate told them that a bloke at the club had heard that................. etc etc.

If it was that bad would Logun offer a lifetime warranty?

Have you changed your mind then?

If so what made you change it?

Sorry if I seem a little off but if they are a bag'o'****e it would be nice to have hard facts to back it up and not rumours and conjecture.

Personally from the LIMITED experience I have had of them they are a gem. EXCELLENT value for money second-hand and a good all round package when teamed with a bi-pod and laser. Everything fits on there and is well balanced and does not look like bolted on compramise.

As for the action then if firmness is needed then give it firmness and then there will be no problems!

I dont care what people think of my S16 it works for me, without compromise. It is very accurate, has plenty of shots to a tank and didnt cost me an arm and a leg.

I honestly dont think I would shooting a PCP at the moment if were not for the good deal I got on it. It came with everything, bar a pump. Its certainly given me alot more confidence in my shot. The gun is setup perfectly with the laser, I can now work out my range to target alot quicker and more accurately. Then titling bi-pod is fantastic and I now find myself taking shots both right and left handed with no trouble at all.

The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing. Each to his own, but I am loving it at the moment.

Regards,

Axe.

To clarify: At first I thought it was a decent gun at a decent price. It has lots of good features like large capacity magazine, big buddy bottle and I thought that Logun must have been confident of their product to offer a lifetime warranty on it.

I've read quite a few reviews on it as well and a few issues keeps coming up time after time. These are that its heavy, pellets getting jammed, cylinder losing gas, reliablity (from jamming, leakage?), valve sticking on bottle among other things like varying power output etc.

Two people on this thread said to stay away and another said they know of people thats had trouble. I never said the S16 was a bad, I've never owned a proper airgun before so I am not qualified to judge. But when so many people are telling you they have had trouble with it, you start listening.

It all may be unfounded ******** because clearly some people are loving theirs and have no problems what so ever.

I dont know.

edit to add.

I went to see that S200 again and basically its a Mk2 and the trigger wobbles. Ill have to spend £150 for a pump on top of the gun and if I want it to have any sort of quality then itll cost me another £50 for metal bits that should already be metal.

Sorry Craws, I wasn't trying to be rude or hostile it's just that I am still looking for positive proof of it's problems!

No offence meant at all.

To be honest I think it is the best value for money gun second hand that I have seen. Another thing is that the "assault" rifle design means that it is more robust than a wood stock, looks better than a synthetic wood stock and I'd be able to take it out in the rain!
