Vectra26
I've had my 10/22 for 3 1/2 years now, I've never been quite satisfied with it though. I've never liked Ruger as a company due to Bill Ruger supporting and partly instigating the 10 round mag limit in the US (Bill's dead now and the ban is no longer current), anyway it put me off the company. That aside the 10/22 is a good rifle. There are thousands of parts available, and I'm sure you'd find something you'd want to change on it. I got the standard rifle and after a week I got sick of the bolt release and changed it for an automatic one. They need to be kept clean and like a lot of .22's are ammo fussy. After 3 years I got fed up of the 7 1/2lb trigger pull and have ordered a hammer to reduce the pull. I'm seriously thinking about changing mine soon. All I say is, if something else is taking your fancy, think what you'd need to spend to get the 10/22 up to the same spec. Oh and one more thing, compared to other rifles, they are a blooming nuisance to strip down for cleaning. Most people say they do like their 10/22's, but most also say that there's something about them that they are not satisfied with, yet they can't put their finger on it. Browning Buckmark would be a good one to look at. Edited August 12, 2009 by Vectra26

Ozzy Fudd
ive had my ruger for over 2 years now, and it gave me nothin but trouble - until recently. i recrowned it, started using target ammo, and changed a couple of other things about. dont know how many 70/80 yard head shots ive taken recently, and i got a 130 yard rabbit last saturday you could do far worse than a ruger 10/22, theres so many different parts and accessories that you can pretty much do anything to suit the rifle to yourself, definitely go for it. ps anschutz are good but it once took me and my mate 3 hours to strip and clean one - an hour to strip and clean it and two hours fiddling with it trying to put it back together! guess what he's on the look out for now - a ruger 10/22.... edit - vectra, what do you mean a 10/22 is a nuisance to strip down and clean? welshwarrior
I love my 10/22 on my second still don't know why I sold the 1st. Great gun and lots of bits to make it do what you want but take can be expensive.
DaveK
My 10/22 hardly ever gets cleaned (maybe twice a year if I get any cycling problems). And is VERY reliable. That said it will probably prove me wrong next time out.
Glensman
You should maybe try the 10/22 T if you don't want to spend a lot on aftermarket products, or go to Rimfire magic. Mine came with a very accurate barrel and the trigger is tuned to break at around 3 1/2 pounds. The first thing a lot of people do is fit the automatic bolt-release, but I've never seen the need for it myself.
CZ550Kevlar
I have a 10/22 T and never had a problem, feed it the right ammo and they are fine, mine loves magtech and S & B, Winchester doesn`t cycle very well and is noisier. The only thing i changed is the stock, treated myself to a shooters ridge composite thumbhole jobbie.
Glensman
I use Winchester T22's with great accuracy and no problems, found them to be 'cleaner' than Lapuas... Luckily for me I ordered it with some sort of limited edition Ruger laminated thumbhole stock... Although I bought a standard stock as well cos the thumbhole can kinda dig into your back when your climbing over fences... The other thing you can def say about Ruger is the number of things available for them, also I LOVE the flush mags...
Macperc
I have a 10/22 with: Fajen stock VQ carbon barrel Kidd trigger Kidd bolt Sak Mod etc, etc... It will shoot 1/4" at 50 an it's extremely light but in hindsight I wish i'd bought an Anschutz or CZ.

Glensman
WW, How did you get on with the banana mags? They cycle ok?
CZ550Kevlar
word of advice, if you want to use stingers don't buy a 10/22 T, they are not compatible.
Ozzy Fudd
i got two eagle banana mags, they work great though needed a bit of work filing the lips etc down at the top
welshwarrior
Glansman Bananna Mags worked ok until I fitted a CST last rnd hold open catch (every semi auto should have one and my biggest complaint with the 10/22) Found steel lips better than plastic ones but always found clean factory mags the best. starlight32
Well I am now going to spoil the party.......... I shot a brno bolt for years, with a barrel longer than a broom handle.... Decided it was time for change and went for a 10-22, which was in hindsight a moment of madness. To this moment I am still unhappy with it in comparison to my old gun and am never likely to be.Looks like a variation is going in and someone is going to get an upgraded 10-22 for bargain money. You either love them or you hate them..........But then again it could be just me being too fussy! P.S Mine cycles everything, earlier ones did'nt like winchester subs, only eley's but that seems to have changed with newer models -I must have a good one in some respects as it will throw anything with no problems........ Vectra26
I just find the 10/22 a hassle to strip compared to other semi rimfires out there - unscrew barrel band, unscrew action screw, drive out two pins, take bolt and oprod etc out. Then if you want to clean the barrel from breech to muzzle, you have to take the V block off. I guess I should just drill a hole in the back of my reciever. Each to his own, but personally it gets on my wick. I have a Butler Creek Hot Lips mag, which never works properly, but Steel Lips and factory mags run fine. Vectra26
I did finally get round to buying a .22 bore snake, but sometimes I like to use a rod and give it a good 'ol scrubbing, and if so from breech to muzzle rather than the other way around. stet
exellent gun as long as you find the right ammo for it to cycle
digga
I bought a 10/22, after being advised not to, wish i had listened i spent £s on it, i had enought, so swopped it for a new cz american, the rest is history!!!!!!
Zapp
I'm with Digga. Get a CZ. Have a search on the web for sites were people are having ammo/reliability/accuracy problems with 10/22s and then do the same for rimfire CZs. Compare the numbers of results. MC
Well I think you are all just bad shots. Or you are all hung up on sub 1/4 moa accuracy which you will never acheive with a .22 anyway. I have a completely out of the box standard 10/22 albeit a walnut deluxe model and it has the bolt release mod done. I have shot countless rabbits and hares with it. Initially I had issues with Remington ammo not cycling but I now use Winchester subs to great effect. I can group easily at 1" at about 70 yards with it if needed but rabbit head shots out to around 80 yards are a piece of ****. And the beauty of it is if you do miss there is another shot straight away. I don't have the cleaning issue either as I don't clean it. It is well balanced with a mod on it and is easy to shoot freehand.
