FREELANDER

Looking for some help and advice.

Had a brand new clutch system fitted 7 months ago, but this last week the first and second gear, has been stiff and hard to get in gear.

My daughter has been in it today, and said they were hard to get, she is useing it for the rest of the week and wants to take into the garage, to look at it.

Has anybody else had the same problem. There is very little play on the clutch peddle, soon as you lift your foot, its away.

Cheers Lads.

clutch and master cylender are a sealed unit , 30 to 40 quid from scrappy , or 85 off fleabay , easy to fit not mechcanical knowledge required.

thats what it sounds like , the slave piston is ready to give up .

if it gives up you wont have any clutch at all.

done this to mrs motor the other week in 15 mins .

hope its easy for ya

Past its MOT yesterday, needs a new master cylinder, going in on monday.

Been out shooting today with a few lads on pigeon watch, and the gears were bloody awfull to get.

When I had the clutch fitted, was told it needed the full clutch system, should a master cylinder have been included, as they fitted a new slave cylinder.

Cost me 750 quid, and Im well ****** off with the garage,

Thanks Lads.

Had a Freelander from new, 53 plate. Went through 2 clutches in under 10k miles, as soon as it was out of warranty it was sold!

Was told it was a known fault but LR didn't want to go public with it.

35 year old S III Lightweight still going strong.

that's odd. My Mum's is a 99, 120k miles and has one new clutch.

O, and it's main use is towing horse boxes!!

Guys I am an army mechanic and as such work on variants og Land Rover alot.99% of slave cylinder problems come from bad driving and people riding the clutch as they drive.Just resting your foot on the pedal causes riding. This causes the clutch fluid to get very very hot, and destroys the seals in the cylinder.

Keep your foot on the mat!!

This nearly allways happens when driving off road by the way!

As for 750 quid, blinking heck I need a new job!!

I guess I had a "Friday afternoon" job, obviously not all Freelanders are bad although remark regarding clutch problem was made by LR callout engineer.

'73 Airportable has 110k miles on original clutch, let's hope I'm not tempting fate!
