  1. Hi Sparkymark,

If you scroll down the topics in NPPC TALK you will find the info you want mate!

I have just received an update list following the end of the game season and the nearest to you is about 25-30 mile away in South Staffs ( A5 )

thats no to bad at all. I would be more than happy to drive twice that distance. Lets just hope the pigeons feed much around there. lol

So you would say that the members are friendly and there could be a good chance of shooting with a few of them?

  2. How did you get on today sparkymark?

I'm usually away at weekends but if you give me some notice I'll come down one weekend seeing as it's only 5 minutes from me!

  3. hi all, i'm a new guy to the forum (great bunch from the various topics i have read). well i intend to start pigeon shooting this year, i'm a complete novice, no land, no deeeks, no cammo nets, no books,

no gun (well i have an old s/s). so a blank canvas so to speak. i know it wont come together overnight, but i want to go down the right path from the beginning (with your help!!).so suggestions please: what books/dvd do you suggest (and have you any sec/hands for sale). what starter kit would you recco, deeks, shells, flappers? the minimum requirement?. do you use cammo nets? or these new popup type hides?. the gun, most important!!, i recently borrowed my pals synthetic auto (gassed whatever that means), i'm a bit of an old boy now so i don't want anything too heavy, it felt great, light in weight and recoil,1/2 choked (no not me with my shooting). well folks i think thats enough questions for now, i look forward to any advice.

kind regards, ORSON (from solihull w/mids)

Im in the same boat as you... its a lot to think about aint it. Your not to far from me.

    cheers

  4. HI all

Forgive me if this has been covered before. But im toaly new to pigeon shooting and have no conection with the sport only clays.

What benefites do you get from becoming a member of NPPC?

seen as there sights down and cant get info from there. Whats it all about then?

    and whats the membership cost?

    cheers

  5. £36 for 100 birds and 100 shells every sunday thats £1872 a year.

My dad pays £1200 a year for membership at his golf club, and most lunch times at a golf range by his work.

So about the same cost over a year as shooting clays really. But with clays you dont ever spoil a walk.

my shooting would be cheaper if i was a memeber of WGC and if i just bite the Bullet and get around to picking a shell im happy with and get 2000 or 3000 in bulk.

  6. One of the main reasons that Manufacturers don't list speeds is because people get hung up thinking speed is better. They would rather you buy them because they work, than on a speed rating.

The best trap cartridges that have the highest consistent breaking performance are actually comparatively slow. These fast cartridges tend to "blow" the pattern and create a long cone shaped cloud with a comet leading front and a hollow tail of shot streaming back behind. This comes because only the centre pattern runs at the high velocity, the pellets on the side of the pattern run slower.

This messy pattern has holes and wasted pellets out the side.

If you slow the velocity down to about 1250 - 1300 fps the pattern quality improves dramatically with a well formed pellet cloud, and few stranglers and streamers. 90% of the pattern will cause a break. Many of the world renowned Trap brands with no speed ratings are around these speeds.

Lighter cartridges also give less fatigue, many shooters whom progress discover that 24g outperform 28g. Why? Recoil over 100 targets effects performance, and less recoil means higher scores.

Certainly true for me, I consistently put in higher scores with 24g cheapest Express.

If you believe speed is better, you are still using equipment as an excuse for a lack of skill. If you put the shot from a sub-conic ( 1050 fps) in the right place it will break a clay out tp 50 yds

By cheap slow cartridges and spend the saving with a good coach. See your scores go up!

    Clayman

I have to agree with this view. who wants to gettign around to your last 2 stands and everytime you put the gun in your sholder its shaking and moving all over the place.

i use 24g low recoil shells. but i also carry a 25 or so 30g for the long distance shots. it may or maynot hit them any better but i just belive that i can hit them more. but for 90% of targets on a ground 24g will brake them just fine.

i think it would be good to see what shell poeple like the most if say you took 20 shooters gave them 100 shells all mixed with no logos or marking on let them have a round of 100 and see which one they like the most.

I would bet that one one shell would come out on top.

  7. lol

Dont take this the wrong way, you may find his daft but.

would it be legal to post say a gun trigger component on its own? and if so could you get away with posting a stock on its own and so on and so on?

    cheers

  8. Hi all.

Had a round of 100 English sporting there today. I was totally shocking! :good: 46 out of 100

I like how they Change the stands and targets from week to week. This week there was some real testing targets.

Nice ground too, all the stands are worked around a little stream that cuts thru a wooded area.

    Any one here shoot there?

  9. cool collection.

my wife weeps everytime i go into a guitar shop lol had a fair few over the years. Les paul, PRS, Strat "clapton sig" but sold them to buy my house and went back to the first guitar i learned to play on "RG550" so when the anny came along ideal.

but anyways. a air rifle can shoot a pellet 1130 ft/s + and break the sound barrier. wow what sort of range can a air rifle of this power do? must sound funky to break the sound barrier with a pellet

  10. The 20b is for my wife. im after a Farbarm axis 12b sporter for myslf. So i have been looking into them.

And was thinking about the 20b for her as well. I am intrested. But i do need to sell my Beretta first.

I know a few shops local to me that are selling the 20b for £950 new and one shop has one in for £875 s/h

so i dont know how you feel about that private i would be looking to pay alittle bit less than a dealers best price.

    what do you think

    cheers
