Caterham Clays is not really a suitable venue for giving lessons - as a monthly competition shoot there is little time for an instructor to give you the time that is needed to develop good technique. Stands and target presentation are not ideal for training at this kind of shoot.
Lessons are much better conducted in a shooting school environment, where there is not queue of regulars breathing down you neck wanting to get on the stand, and where the targets are set up for training purposes, and the stands are built to allow an instructor in comfortably with the pupil - or skeet ranges are used.
Cliff Hughes at Dartford has the facilities to provide unpressured 1-2-1 training in Kent, and I use the private facilities at Ridgewood outside Reigate ( as does Alan Bush and Mike Brett).

I agree with Jerry. A private facility makes for a more relaxed, less pressured experience. It can be off putting having experienced people watching you.

It's easy to blame having the wrong choke etc. The best advice would be to have some lessons which include gun fit. Start the correct way and save yourself frustration and expense in the long term.

For a proper simulated game shoot you will need multiple traps. Also make sure everyone has a SGC othherwise you will need to apply for a section 11-6 exemption on the land.

Go to the CPSA website and find a local instructor. It willl be money well spent.

Well it''s nice to read all the comments - but where has Kaedyn gone, and did he make a decision as to where to get training?

I recently updated my Optolyth 8x30 for a Canon IS 10x30 (IS means image stabilisation). The difference is amazing. Much sharper image and of course it doesn't shake about as much. £300 ish if you shop around.

Just be aware that the foot position diagram is wrong in the book.
