  1. I did james..px my freelander and astra sri...only had chance use the ****** for 2-3 days before i headed back out..i believe you met a mate of mine the other day ? richard

Yeah I met him yesterday, nice guy. Went to collect a shotgun off him with a mate who's waiting on his ticket (put it on mine for now).

  2. I've only had my Jimny a few months but from the moment I picked it up i've wanted it resprayed. Matt green was always the one, after seeing the Offroad Armoury Jimny, but now yours is like that I may have to go matt black! :hmm: (don't want to be a copycat :look: )

I'm not bothered about having a go myself, but I don't know how to get the damned graphics off mine?

Your Jimny looks AWESOME now. :good:

  3. Thanks for the replies guys.

Field is around 60 yards wide at that point and house is a good 100, maybe further. The scale on my picture is way off :good:

Incidentally I was shooting TOWARDS the road with the air rifle last saturday (70 yards from road), trying to get into this sort of area and the Police turned up. Someone had seen me from the road and called them. He was ok, just concerned that I was shooting towards the road, I explained that there's a bank etc, I was shooting an air rifle and at birds that had landed in the middle of the distance between me and the road and he was happy enough.

I'd rather be by the hedge and hidden than facing towards the road in full view. Can't think of any other way to shoot the area?

There are only two houses on the private road, my parent's and the one i've shown in the picture. They'd be alright with me shooting air rifle in the field.

  4. Hi guys,

I know this topic has been covered more than a few times but I need some advice on shooting near to a road.

Basically on one of the fields that I shoot on, the pigeons all congregate at one end which is quite narrow and refuse to come down to the other end where it's more open and I can use a shotgun. They fly to and from their roost all evening to one patch on the field. Now, I was thinking, how dodgy would it be to set up a hide as shown in the picture, some decoys in the feeding area and use a 12FTLB AIR RIFLE from the hide?

I can position the hide so it can't be seen from the road (road is higher than field as there is a small bank maybe 3ft high) and the hedge is quite thick.

I've attached a very bad picture of the area i'm trying to describe. Thought please guys :good:

  5. I recently was talking about similar conditions..the lawful quarry..

Ive had my FAC now almost 15 yrs..and like the rest of the shooters in the uk,who have this condition,, i would like the condition of lawful quarry put on, so when i get home in june will be enquiring..but as im with cheshire not building my hopes up.

Its wrong that i can take a mate foxing on my land or he take me.we both have same cal rifles..he can shoot any lawful quarry..so if the farmer says i also want the rabbits shooting..yes with 223 or whatever cal.. my mate can yet i cant..all because of the condition on my 223.

It should all be the same country wide not where you live like the NHS lottery postcode.

Funny a mate in cheshire asked about shot placement on a deer with ref to them stating he has a mentor..yet he can shoot fox without a mentor..which is critical as he knows..but cheshire said it doesnt matter where you shoot a fox as its VERMIN..now thats wrong and every shot on a animal should be well placed for a clean kill..

Even funnier is ive just gone on a other forum and had a mess of a Chap from BASC saying that in the last week what im after ,the condition lawful quarry...and cheshire

    He just sent this.......

I don't know where you are with your complaint about Cheshire so far, but you may find that things have changed in the last week or two - in your favour

So we will see when im home...but still conditions should be country wide and same for everyone.

    Mick......RANT OVER

    Mick,

I spoke to Cheshire a couple of days ago regarding conditions. As a force, they said they chose not to adopt the new wording of "any other lawful quarry" as I was trying to get them added to my deer rifles.

  6. I've just been looking and I'm confused about something else now, everyone here says SG is the English equivalent to U.S. '00 Buck'.

9/every10 sites I go to, says that '0 Buck' is 8.1mm and '00' is 8.4, and also on Wikipedia the size table says:

    '0 Buck' (SG).

'00 Buck' is 'MG' (which I assume stands for medium game).

    '000 Buck' is 'LG'

'SSG' would be the equivalent of #4 Buck.

Do we just take to calling it 'Double-Ought Buck' cause it sounds cool?

    Any ideas??

I bought some Eley SG the other day and it has "8.4mm SG" on each cartridge.

  7. Hi guys,

I've got an Air Arms S200 and haven't really shot it that much. Took it down the range to zero it last night and I was getting air in the face each time I fired it. Not much, but noticeable. I'm assuming it is losing efficiency but not sure where it's coming from?

    Any ideas?

  8. My rifle club isn't that expensive int he grand scheme of things, i think i paid £75 for annual membership then its £10 a go when we use the outdoor MOD ranges once a month.

I had to wait 6 months before i could become a full member (club policy)

In the grand scheme of things that isn't that expensive i don't think, plus i get access to the 25m indoor range 4 times a week...great for practice.

It's not expensive at all in the grand scheme of things, if you use the facilities. My club charges £2 a time for members (£4 at the MOD ranges) and it's £16 per month direct debit. I get access to MOD ranges twice a month and 6 days a week in the indoor range. :good:

  9. thanks james..seems like a good route to go down if people dont have a permission with vermin control issues..i have heard though that it can be quite an expensive affair to join a rifle club and that you must attend so many times before FAC will be signed for by the club. the cost is the main hing stopping me from doing it

It's expensive if you have no intention of target shooting. Depends what you want to do. I'm usually there every week and it gets me on the long range outdoor shoots too, but if you just want the FAC for vermin control then it probably isn't worth it. My probationary period was 3 months

  10. The 'firearm' will be any firearm, sub 12ft air or powderburner/shot gun.

And tyes, you are right about the footpaths, use your common sense.

Re the land, if your licence isn't open ask your force to organise a survey via the force that the land is covered by (for example my farmland was only surveyed and cleared for .22lr, but thats because thats what the last shooter asked for, not that it was only suitable for ,22lr and no more), once thats done and you have the appropriate permissions you can shoot the fox with whatever the land is cleared for.

Oh and sod the other shooters, go and pull their hides down, let 'em know they're not welcome... Try contacting them, just organise you timings so you don't get in the way of each other.

Thanks very much for the info :good:

I'll see if I can arrange for the police to do a survey of the land

  11. not really an answer to your question this, but more of an interest..i am looking to apply for my FAC in the near future, currently shoot air rifles.

and was just wondering if this is your first permission how did you get your FAC, did you go down the gun club route, or you live on a farm etc? just curious thats all as you seem to have quite a few different guns.

    thanks, ben

    Hi Ben,

I applied for my FAC citing target shooting (club member) as the main reason for all the rifles in my signature (got 2 more slots still to fill too). I also got .260 and .270 approved for deer. I'm sending a letter to my local force to get the conditions changed for vermin and fox as soon as I get the land issue sorted.

  12. Hi guys,

I've just managed to get my first permission at a local farm. I have a couple of questions though and was wondering if anyone would be able to advise:

Some of the fields are adjacent to the road, and some have public footpaths cutting through them. One of the fields adjacent to the road is quite narrow and is constantly hammered by pigeons. I know there are rules regarding the discharge of a firearm within 50ft of the road if in doing so this causes a disturbance/danger to road users etc. What constitutes "a firearm" in this regard? Also, with regard to footpaths, are there any rules that i've missed or is it just a case of common sense and good practice?

One of the main issues on the farm is foxes (mnay lambs have been taken recently). The farmer has an open FAC and deals with them as and when he can. I have spoken to my firearms department and they say the land is only graded for .22LR (I had planned on getting the .223 on there). Now the land in question is not in my force's area, would it be worth contacting the force in question to see if they have a different opinion or just accept that I can't help with the foxes?

The farm already has two guys who who control vermin there, and by all accounts they have been doing a proper job, setting up hides around the land etc. Now I think that as I am so close the farmer didn't mind me going on, as long as it was ok with them (he asked and they said it was ok unless they wanted to shoot and i'd obviously move on) but i'd like to speak to them to make it clear that I don't want to be treading on people's toes. If you were in the same situation how would you approach going about shooting so as to not upset the other shooters?

Any help on these points would be greatly appreciated

    James

  13. Looks good mate, welcome to the club :)

What lift has it got just out of interest :hmm:

    Nice Jimny :D

It's got a 3" spring lift. Managed to get some of the stuff out of it over the weekend, just need to remove the roof tent and stickers and it should look a bit more subtle ;)
