  1. If you've got the land, why not just put in for a centrefire rifle? You will not be able to make a serious dent in any fox population with just a shotgun. Some foxes are just too shy and wont come more than 50 yards in.

Honestly, the majority of the work I do on the land doesn't require the need for a centrefire rifle. Although, I agree, it would make a big difference. My sensible hat thinks it would be a significant investment for something I'll have very little use for long term.

  2. Hi,

This is my first post on here!

Quick question, I look after most the pest control at my place of work and I've been asked to reduce the fox population by at least half. Thing is, my normal quarry is mainly squirrels, rabbits and pest birds like woodies. So, I'm a touch unsure as to the right cartridge for the job.

I have a 12g mossberg 500 ( with hushpower + 28" barrel) and I was wondering if I could use Gamebore buffalo 42g no.3's. I would probably have the hushpower barrel on the gun when I'm in a position to take a shot but will these have enough punch to cleanly kill a fox at say up to ~35 meters?

From my searches I see that most people recommend at least 36g BB or no.1. Should I perhaps look at something like Eley 2 3/4" 42g No.1 / BB instead?
