  1. The nearest to Wakefield is Yorkshire Field Sports. It is  at Newland  more less next to Stanley Ferry.   You can just turn up and shoot.  It is every other Sunday and I believe it is at Tadcaster the Sunday in-between.  You may need wellies. No shooting  mid-week though, they can;t get any more time because of a complaints  by not so near neighbours.

Further away is Humberside Shooting Ground  near Hornsea.  A really good ground with lots of traps, hard standing,  a bit of a cafe and a gun shop with a gunsmith.  I would say that it is as friendly as any other commercial ground.   Closed Monday.  Late nights in summer. About one and a half hours away from Wakefield.

  2. I have been trying to buy a cheapish S200 without much luck. They seem to go very quickly unless they are a bit pricey. Condition is not too important along as it is in a safe and serviceable condition.

    Cheers

  3. I've just bought an old BSA century, taken it home and removed the bolt so that I could clean the gun. I wiped away the muck from the bolt and lightly lubed. After cleaning the bore I tried to put the bolt back but it wont go go back. When I bought the gun everything seemed OK.

    Any advice please please.

  4. If as your name suggest your an older shooter, then consider a decent butt pad/recoil reducer as 12 pack alot more punch than a .22

Yep, I am an Older shooter - retired last year. Your advice is very sound and I would want a recoil reducer however as with all recoiling long guns butt placement is also an important consideration. When shooting recently with a borrowed gun I did find the pad a great enhancement to placement.

I have been fortunate in the past to use several centre fire guns such as a Winchester 44-40, SMLE .303, Walther p38 (Lovely pistol), Artillery Luger, Colt Python 357mag, a Colt 45 ( peacemaker type) and a colt 45 ACP. to mention a few. It is a great pity that it is now illegal to own the guns.

I understand that some of the eastern European countries allow different types of guns to be lent and used by visitors for a fee. Might pay a visit sometime.

    Cheers

  5. Hi Everyone,

I thought that I'd just introduce myself and let you know a bit about me. I am retired and I'm really a paper puncher rather than a hunter. I do not have any objections at all to hunting, it's just not my scene. You're asking why have I joined this forum and the answer is because I want to, I have an interest in most types of shooting and shooting information.

There's loads more about me that I could ramble on about but rather than boring you I'll just say thanks for having me.
