  1. The actions of one reflect on many is often the case, yet it is the duty of many to put things right! It is here that the cops are failing, Selection is wrong (the military that were brought in to train SO19 made this complaint yet were told to just "get on with it").

Interested in the military involvement training SO19 , how did that come about and what was the objective , was it a one off for the Met or more wide spread ?

    Thanks

  2. I have had 4 TD4's since 2001 and not had any probs ( currently have a FL2 ) , advice seems to be avoid the 1.8 petrol unless the cylinder head job has been done , genly got about 28mpg town work and 38 on a cornwall run . Always felt the FL1 needed a 6th gear on the motorway .

  3. Bringing back memories now (sound old but only moved 10 years ago) remember the sound of gun shots, used to have many a picnic on the other side of the river to the club,do you still live in glossop?last time i was up there was alot of changes in the town

No moved out when I started to work in Manchester , didn't fancy the drive out of Glossop up Mottram Moor each day , all family still live there and we are only 15 mins away in Stalybridge .

  4. Is this the ground down the lane past the factory, next to shire hill?mossy lea?used to live in old glossop as a youngster way before had an intrest in shooting, might try it if i manage to get back up there!yes

Yes the road from the Queens Pub past the factory towards Mossy Lea , I used to work at Issac Jacksons at Hawkshead Mill just off Hope St , father in law still lives in a cottage in factory grounds ( factory shut yrs ago) and when the club was open before I used to hear the shooting on sun morns .

I remember shooting at the club when it was in Charlesworth before it moved to Old Glossop but cant recall where it was situated , off Coombs Rd perhaps ?

  5. I used to play with bullionvault.com You own virtual gold (silver, platinum etc.) which does exist and is stored in a vault in London, Switzerland, New York... Easy to buy and sell, and interesting to watch the price fluctuate, and see your buy and sell orders being fulfilled. But that might not be what you're after, if you just want some gold to stick under the bed!

I think you can buy it on eBay - small pieces certainly.

Is there a minimum investment to do it in bullionvault , had a look at the website but cant see it , realise there are admin/storage fees , is it aimed at the large investor or small amounts as well ?

  6. Been on the Yamaha soundbars for several years , YSP800 and currently YSP600 , I just didn't want the mither of cables and several speaker boxes anymore , they are ok for what they are and provide a good soundstage in front of the listener.

I used to have a 5.1 setup a few years ago and do miss the effects from the rear speakers , maybe wireless speaker systems have moved on and are an option ?

My telly is in the corner of the room which doesn't help as the promised soundbeams struggle to bounce of the walls , the only thing I can hear from the rear is the dishwasher if the kitchen door is open

  7. Assuming liver in healthy state it will start to process the alcohol after an hour or so after you start drinking but the recommended safe way to determine if you are clear and the alcohol has left the body is start the clock at the time you finished drinking so say 5 bottles at 2 units strength = 10 units , liver starts to process at 1 unit per hr so 10am next morning .

I know seems a bit over the top but I used this calculation when I used to give driving lessons on a Sunday after being out Sat night , never had a lesson before midday , brother was breathalysed on his way to work at 9am after drinking to 1am and still over limit .

When I was running drink drive courses most people on the courses had no idea what alcohol was in their body when they drove ( a few admitted they were well over but decided to drive ) , and several were caught out by drinking late and driving early .

The company I worked for used to promote a Tanita breath testing device that was said to give a reliable indication of alcohol in the breath ( not accurate levels )

  8. It's called "add ons" and it all runs off the broadband (have to have unlimited broadband) google, xbmc, channel 1, ice films

My download speed is 3mbps , is that too slow for the above ? , fibre optic not available in this area yet , see the Apple TV2 commands a price premium due to its ability to accept add ons .

  9.

I can't get on with merino base layers, despite what everyone says I always find they itch, but I have never bought high end stuff.

I like the look of Howies stuff but would prefer to buy it in the sales, might be one for the Christmas list

Are you out on Sunday Nik? we are doing VV.

I bought a medium and it fits perfectly - not sure if that helps :)

They aren't big or 'Italian fit' just normal 'as is' if you get my drift

    Thanks for reply

  10. I wouldn't normally do this but I have been so impressed with this I thought I would share.

Having owned and used Helly Hansen, Musto base layers in the past I was pretty sceptical about something that 'only' costs about a 1/3rd of the others, so out of curiosity I had a punt and bought one.

Apart from the fact it doesn't breathe as well as the the Helly Hansen Lifa stuff I can't fault it, I even had to take it off one day beating as I was too warm, so they are probably better suited to sitting up rather than yomping about.

And no I am not connected with the company ;)

Hows the sizing ? , I am 43" Chest so wondering if XL is the one to go for ?

    Thanks

  11. I used to run drink drive rehabilitation courses for a private company afore I retired as a driving instructor , had 2 or 3 SG cert holders on the course who had been banned for drink driving , none of them had lost their tickets ( they were worried that they might ) . The circumstances in which they were convicted were not aggravated so I suppose the police decided that on these occasions the ticket holder was still a suitable person .

I did have one person ( banned obviously) turn up on the course after driving there :innocent: , and several were repeat offenders , dont know what the current guidance is regarding revoking certs after a conviction .

  12. Congrats , if I knew that grandchildren were going to be so much fun I would have had them first  , Jack is 3 and he slept over one night this week and I had him all day while his parents were at work , helped me make a loaf , put shopping away after Tesco del , went a walk , took him to garden centre where there is an aquatic centre plenty of animals and birds . We then spent 20 mins in the car watching the trams passing ( new service that has just extended to Ashton U Lyne from M/C ) .

His sister Emma is 1 and crawling about into everything , missus seems to be buying something every week for them

  13. I suffer from a snoring wife , on occasion it drives me mad as I cant get to sleep , couple of yrs ago it got so bad I slept in the front bedroom for 6 months and after shutting all doors I managed to keep the noise out .

I have suggested she visits the docs but she refuses and thinks it funny , and even says I snore !
