    Unfortunately if the only way to the field is by the top then you are exposing yourself (Silhouette) even before you can get a decent shot. Try walking down the side of the field next to the hedge, or fence- just to blend in as much as possible. Or try minimising your silhouette by crawling.

  5. Crayfish & eel trapping.

    Not sure about trapping, but using a sea fishing hook baited with a few earthworms works well. If you try this, make sure you dont use a fishing rod, as the eels can swim backwards and back into their holes, where they can cause a vacuum. I find a thick broom pole and a lenth of sea fishing line or nylon string works well- even if it does sound fairly primitive :lol::lol:

    Any way, if you try this method I wish you luck, its is highly effectie and great fun.

    128mb RAM

    2.1GB Hard drive

    Graphics card

    56 kps modem

     

    Runs well and have had no problems with it.

     

    Will sell all for £80 (o.n.o)!!!!

     

    Because its such a heavy thing I would prefer it to be picked up but postage can be arranged.

    Try the small local shoots, they are always willing to take on a new beater- esspecially if they have a dog, like yourself!

    Most of the local shooters will go to the village pubs or clay shoots, so you just need to get to know anybody that knows of a shoot orginiser.

    thanks very much guys, very informative. I am probably going to go for the cocker but I am going to look around a bit and meet a few breeders, see what the parents are like in working terms and temprement.

    Hi everybody,

     

    After following all of NTTF's fantastic advice on dog training and going shooting with people with gun dogs I have decided to go for it and get my very own gun dog. I would like to know which dog is the easiest to train. I have been thinking about getting either a cocker, springer or a retriever. Cocker spaniel is the dog I am most fond of- I have heard good reports from fellow shooters that they are good at everything: water, bushes,retrieving. But I have also heard that they can be a bit nippy and bad tempered. A good tempered dog is vital as it will be around small children- Is this a clear description?

     

    Any advice is much appreciated,

    usually late July or early august. Before then you should get some sport on laid cereals but only if there is a sufficient summer storm.

     

    If your booking time off work it would be risky to do it at this time, because even the farmer wont know when he's harvestings. As dogsnuts says its completely dependant on the weather; if its dry and warm with a bit of rain the harvest will be early. If it cold and very wet the harvest will be late.

    When pigeons are feeding on the ground they do not coo. They only coo when they are in trees- so cooing from your decoys on the ground will have an ill effect.

    I have often put decoys in trees and called out to other pigeons- this works.

     

    As for crows, you have the right idea. The crows are cawing at the decoys to get a reply. If they dont get a reply they know the "crows" are actually decoys. Therefore if you caw in the correct manner the crows will have the confidence to come into range.

    The young 'uns are quite good to eat but the older ones are too tough.

    Best thing to do is what your doing- giving to somebody who uses them and burrying them- at least you are reintroducing them to the food chain.

     

    You can eat crows etc- just experiment witht hem, see if you like them.

    Thanks a lot guys :yp:

     

    Been a good day- lots of birthday beatings :D:lol: . Im planning to start driving lessons soon so I can get me self to the clay shoot :lol:

     

    In the bouncers and bar tenders "view" I am 18, so it doesnt stop me from having an iron bru at the bar :D

     

    Best thing is, I can now BUY my own ammo and shotguns! :) - Cant get much better.

    Very good info FM :yp:

     

    I have been rook shooting for the past 10 years with my dad. We go to the same rookery each year, at around this time (went yesterday). We usually shoot 10-20; which is enough to make some rook pate, provide good sport and sustain the population for the coming year.
