  1. so took bonni to the show, and to cut a long story short, there are 4-5 land rovers there every year for the last 10, none restored just in tatty original condition, 3 are series 1's, one was a series 2a and the other was a series 1, 107, and one of the series 1's won best 4X4, nothing short of a joke really, iv emailed the organisers to ask why :lol::lol:

Enjoyed every minute of this thread, thank you :good:

Why didnt you win a prize?....... because they all give prizes to their mates, seen it so many times, sad trophy hunters

I show cars often, but I leave a note on them to say 'not to be judged' [been there done that]

You did what you set out to do, you are a winner in the true sense :yahoo: well done

We you started this project I cautioned you not to get too much money in the car, I thought you might get your fingers burnt, I have a series two that had just shy of £20k spent on it and I paid £11k for it, you can soon loose money if you dont keep an eye on it!

but you didnt loose out, you made, result!

  2. Hey Bubble - these aren't cheap but I have one in mine and it is brilliant for noise reduction

Thanks FS, looks the business :)

They do a sound deadening and carpet kit like I got at paddocks.

Looks about the same. Think they were £75 each with VAT on

It's just the local classic car rally.

Keep going for it, you never know :good:

Got the galv. bumper from inside 4x4 or what ever they are called, it was marked, so unwrap yours and look, I complained and got £20 refunded! :good:

  3. cheers bubble,

got the bumper from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SERIES-2-3-LAND-ROVER-FRONT-GALVANISED-BUMPER-WITH-BOLTS-564704-/170699515553?hash=item27be7be6a1:m:mkDr9ir99JTxS6NHtLZWceA

very pleased with it and about the cheapest i could find, came with the bolts too :good::good::good::good:

    Ordered it- thanks :good:

Interesting watching with the carpet, I only have rubber mats in mine and have been looking out for a rug thingy to go around the gear box area to keep the normal drone down, I guess thats the county advantage ... carpets

Keep the faith, seven weeks will fly by now :good: which show is it booked in for?

  4. i did try put towing eyes on too but the bolts wasn't long enough as there was a gap between where the bumper sat, but when i bolted it on it drew it up, so i will take it off tomorrow and try again, sat in place waiting :good::good:

    hiya viking

still watching with interest, keep the pics coming :good:

Where did you get the front bumper from and are you happy with it, I need one for my series three

  5. I've already been on Autotrader looking for 'market value' and there are loads of cars roughly the same for slightly more than I paid which hopefully should help the case but am ready for a battle.

Can't bring myself to claim as just had a dizzy headache for a day or so and the son is fine. We'll see how they wife gets on but i'll leave the decision down to her.

The other poster that gave the reason to claim is correct

you have paid inflated premiums, its you turn to get what you are owed

I have also had to change my mind, goes against the grain but ......

  6. Just design your own. Can I recommend a program? It's not cheap if you want all the bells and whistles but it produces really good, solid geometry essential for 3D prints.

    FormZ (there's a free version).

and then you need netFabb (there's a free version of this too). Check your model geometry with netFabb and you won't have any horrid air printing, hidden artefacts causing issues. swapped normals... the list goes on.

Good luck (what did he buy btw?)

Errr ... in english please

  7. Every now and again I buy something impractical and thirsty get sick after a while and go economical get sick of no power no fun factor and then go daft again. Never learn

Yep do the same, big, then small, then big......

When I have the big one, I yearn after the economy of a small one, when I have the small one , I yearn after the space and speed

Perhaps I should go medium :hmm:

  8. Actually being able to bring many things together in a clear design solution is why a big architects firm once went out of its way to recruit dyslexics. Again brain pathways are different!

Excellent topic and I concur with the posts, slightly , but I totally concur with the post above

I'm not sure what my issue is, but I 'think' I think in 3D and tend to come to a conclusion quickly, I then become impatient with everybody been slow to catch up, or I just don't get it , there no middle ground! I rework problems multiple times for a good /best outcome and get disappointed if other don't do the same

On my book shelf I only have factual books , absolutely no fiction, I hate things that are not true, I have no time for things that are fantasy. My sister is exactly opposite , loves books and spells like a wizard

Interestingly my oldest son is exactly same, interesting to watch as a parent.

    At 50 I came to accept my 'skill/problem(.?) :-)

  9. I assume you have Winter tyres fitted too ?? :whistling: or at least tyres that are rated with the sidewall stamp M + S and a snowflake emblem stamp marking ?

Good idea but no mandatory in France

This year I used a four wheel drive with regular tyres, previously I have used winter tyres and M&S tyres, didn't notice much difference, but then I guess I wouldn't until I did a hard stop

  10. Have you heard something bad is coming ?

    Nope

No chains, no go, if it's 'chains obligition' (chains mandatory )

They don't want the road blocking by a numty pushing ahead and getting stuck without chains

    Skiing =snow =alps

  11. Thanks for the replies, I'm driving to France snowboarding, I believe it's law to carry them up the mountain I pray I dint need them as they look a pain to get on!

OK now I can help you

If you want you can use socks in France, instead of chains

Google autosock and put your tyre size in, get a size number , then go to eBay and look see, if you need size 698 I have a pair you can have!

Or google roof box web site and put your tyres in there, for chains there are other web sites

Only when you get to the fancy end of cars do you need to be careful with wheel clearance

you will probably get all the way there and only need chains form the last couple of miles

I have been six times and used socks/ chains 3 times so its 50/50 for me

Socks worked fine all the way up to Avoriaz, but take a torch, gloves and a kneeing pad!!!! overtime I fitted them in the dark and snowing [pack them at the top!!]

I had to use chains just to park once, in your favour the shogun is 4x4 so you are at an advantage, but when the weather turns the police insist that chain /socks go on , or you don't proceed

practice putting them on before you go

    enjoy the snow

  12. It tends not to be that simple

You need the profile of the tyre

Try eBay they aren't that expensive for plain chains

My Lexus needs zero clearance round the back, this is a messy option and requires an expensive half chain

    Look at polar chains

    Also

    Thule and spike spiders

But you will find different chains for 18" dependant on profile

    Hope it helps
