  1. I had just finished cleaning my rabbits and was walking back to my car, shotgun slung over one shoulder, bunnies over the other as I approached my car when a police car stopped next to me.

The officer rolled down his window and greeted me and explained that he had stopped as he saw a car (mine) stopped in the entrance to a field and wanted to make sure everything was ok, but could see that all was well now. He asked how many I'd taken today, wished me a good evening and drove off. All very polite and cheerful from both sides. 10/10 encounter.

But this has me wondering now, theoretically, what if he had asked me to surrender my firearm temporarily? Or had I been stopped on my way to/from my permissions and after informing an officer I have firearms in the car, they request to check them? Surely a non-firearm trained officer cannot be allowed to take control of a firearm? Handing firearms to people without a licence is surely illegal right?

I have no objection to cooperating with police in their lawful investigations, after all I'm not doing anything wrong, but what should you do when stopped by police in such situations where these requests are made?

  2. A big thank you goes out to oldypigeonpopper who has taught me everything I know about shotgun shooting and pigeon decoying. I've been out a number of times with him and have learnt a huge amount, as well as countless tips and techniques.

The video below is a short compilation of some of the better shots I made on my very first solo outing, shooting over recently cut rape.

Gun is my 1988 Browning Medallist, with 1/4 and 1/2 chokes, shooting the new 32g Eley Pigeon HV.

Make sure to watch it in 1080p 60fps for best experience!

I finished the day with 19 pigeons and 1 crow, though only picked 15 pigeons, as a few were lost to the hedges and wheat behind me.

  3. Just a quick one to say a big thank you to Oldypigeonpopper for taking me out to have a bash at the pigeons last Saturday. I had an absolute blast (pun intended) with his A612 shooting 7.5 28grams out of a 1/2" choke.

I managed 15 down, but only 10 picked as the rest were lost to hedges, bushes and long grass. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this though!

    Thanks Oldypigeonpopper!

  4. hello, i am with TVP and when i had the land check and given the ok for both FAC and shotgun which took a few weeks to arrive only then did i put in 2 cabinets and 1 ammo safe. ammo safe from GDK sent to local argos.

    Alright G!

    Nice to see ya.

So do you have to fix the ammo safe to a wall mate?

  5. Does ammunition have to be stored in a safe that is fixed to the wall or floor as well?

I'm considering getting a totally separate safe for ammunition and hiding it elsewhere, rather than a built in compartment in the main safe.

It would be much easier if this wasn't required to be wall/floor mounted as well.

    Does anyone know definitively?

  6. Just put in for my FAC and SGC. Going to get a safe installed before interview since wait times around here are already up to 5 months I'm told.

I've seen a decent 5 gun with ammo section from Bratton Stroud for 200, which seems quality. There are same spec safes from places like dirty pro tools for 3/4 the amount which still meet all the same requirements...

So what do you have fitted? Would you buy the same again? Different safe for ammo a better idea?

    Any advice welcome.
