You make and interesting point Smudger. I noticed this but was told that the reason for this (not by Browning) is the bore is wider than normal, so the chokes do choke to the same degree, but as the bore is larger than normal the chokes end up being larger than a standard choke. Whether that’s true or not I have no idea

Thanks all, yes i have a browning that uses the DS plus chokes, Titanium. It was for game really, but it seems a quarter and half is fine.

I have a Browning 525. New. It appears to say i can use HP steel up to Improved modified 3/4. I seem to remember reading that steel groups more closely so if you want the same effect as a 3/4, drop it down one. Is this correct? If you were out for a day pigeon shooting what chokes would you use for steel?

I am working, but he will hopefully have the time to see the flights, work out crops and where they are and do the “scouting” so to speak. On a different note, how do you guys humanly kill a pricked bird? Is it a tap to the back of the head with a dense object, or do you do it other ways?

Hi, i have recently gotten permission to shoot on a farmers land, so very much looking forward to it. I will initially do some walked up and a little decoy work when i feel more confident. he is also going to introduce me to a retired gentleman who i think is looking for a bit of company on some days. However i was wondering how you work out which fields you can shoot in and which not. I once did a day with a chap who seemed to have an app on his phone which highlighted the Fields’ he could shoot in and let him know where he was so must have been some GPS. Does anyone know what this app might be? Thanks in advance

Thanks all. Your measured and knowledgeable replies give me hope that not all forums are bad! I shot my best score ever with the gun at the weekend. So i think i will be sticking with the chokes as they are for sure. I can always experiment with others at a later date. Just having a gun that fits and feels responsive is a real delight as well and so far the XS Pro has been a very good purchase. I have always wanted a Beretta but they just don’t fit me, the Browning just feels a little bit chunkier and fits me better.

Ok, every day’s a school day. So in essence the choke is in relation to the bore, rather than a fixed size. Explains a few things. Also makes the chokes i have a little more useful. Thank you all for the learning experience

Thanks for the Welcome ). The tool looks like a staggered tube. Inserted into the choke it stops at one of the widths. It reads accurate for all my other gun chokes (fixed) and their changeable chokes. But my XS Pro is seems to show the chokes are 1/4 less than marked for every one in the box. Having said that, i shot the best score ever today…. So not going to change them. Just wondered if anyone else had seen this or if the Invector Plus chokes widen at the end a little but a few MM in they are narrower.

Hi, hoping people can help. I have recently purchased a Browning XS Pro. It comes with Invector Plus Titanium extended chokes. I have never had a shotgun with changeable chokes before. I love the gun, but when i have put in what the internet repeatedly says is a 1/4 and 1/2 choke, a friend uses his choke measure tool which states they are in fact near open and 1/4. When measuring a modified choke, it shows as 1/4 choke. A full choke shows as 3/4. Can someone explain what’s going on? When he uses his tool to measure the rest of the gangs chokes they read as the choke says they do. Thanks in advance
