It was probably a type of screw worm. In the USA there is a worm like a screw worm, we call it a wolve. The worm bores under the flesh and lives between the skin and muscle tissue.

About 4:30 two does came out from the tree line. Around 4:45, another doe came out. Just after 5pm a spike and a 6 point came out. Then, just before dark, about 5:15 or so this 9 point walked out of the tree line. I hit him from about 75 yards. The deer ran into a very dense thicket where I spent the next hour looking for him. Then the nextt hour and a half dragging him up hill. Finally, I got him where he could be loaded on the 4-wheeler. The rifle is a Remington model 700 chambered in 7mm express / 280. Remington designed this caliber off the 30-06. Its the same brass as a 270 but with a 7mm bullet. I was shooting 150 grain pointed soft points. The deer weighed in at a little over 125 pounds, but he had been field dressed - so his weight might have been around 140 pounds or so.

My 13 year old son got his first deer in november. It was a 6 point whitetail, taken with a Marlin model 336 in 30-30. The deer was about 75 yards away when it was shot, the deer ran about 60 feet or so into a pine thicket. My son and I pulled the deer into a clearing where we could load it on a 4-wheeler and get it to the truck. The deer weighed in at around 125 pounds.

The pit is going to be rented out. This is my first one to build, and I have 3 more in the planning phase. Depending on how many people you want to cook for, and how much money you want to spend - you get the pit dropped off at your house with all the wood you need. sorry, but I do not deliver outside texas. This pit is not quit finished yet, maybe another full days worth of welding and metal work.

The pit was fired up around 11 am, which means I am running late again. My son and I made a trip to the camp to shoot his shotgun and pick up some wood for the smoker. The ribs wet on around 12 noon, we are planning on eating at 4 so that gives them a 4 hour cook time. 4 hours is like the bare minimum for cooking ribs. The ribs just went on around noon. Then there are the pork chops The deer backstrap went on just a little bit ago. That is the chunks on the right hand side. The box on the front is for dry wood storage. So when I pull the pit somewhere, that is where some of the wood goes.

When I first looked this site over, one of the very first things I noticed, there are a lot of over and under shotguns here. Is that because over and under are more favored, because double barrels are legal, because people in the UK can not own semi-autos.....? Here in the states, a lot of people prefer pump or semi-auto for duck and bird hunting. There is a nitch of over and under shooters states, but not like what I am seeing on this site. My personal preference, I like semi-auto or pump.

Nice pictures Kev. Are they whitetail? I'd be interested in seeing your album. Yes, these are what we call whitetail deer. Usually the bucks can grow to about 150 pounds (plus or minus a little), the does get about 100 - 130 pounds. Last year I took two 8 point bucks weighing 130 pounds each - that is before field dressing. Thank you. I am paying off another marlin 30/30 for my son and after the first of the year another deer rifle or pistol is being considered. I would really like to have another .45 ACP pistol, had one a few years ago but sold it.

Does this site have a real picture gallery, or do we post our pictures to a thread? I took around 200 opening weekend. I guess I could upload the pictures to photobucket then post them here.

A little hunting, camping, hiking - your usual stuff. A guy off youtube told me about this site so I thought I would drop by and say hello.

Pictures from the opening weekend of deer season in Texas. Bow season started in October, regular rifle season started on the first saturday of November. I saw 7 the first weekend, but nothing big enough to shoot. On sunday evening, I saw 4 does moving together. Its too early in the season to shoot a doe, I'am going to let my kids use the doe permit anyway.
