Hello Folks,
I was given an old English hammer gun dated around the turn of the centery the other week, It is in excellent condition, I was planning on taking it out to try it at the weekend and I thought I better check that it is in proof.
On the stamping it thas a crown over BV which I take it is when it was first proofed when it was made, it is also stamped with the crown over BP and Nito Proofed which I think means it was reproofed at Birmingham for Nitro Powder. Does this sound right so far ?
The question I have is there there is also another stamp on the barrels at reads 1 and one eigth - does this mean it is only proofed for one and one eigth cartridges ? if this is the case is it still possible to get cartridges in this size and if so where from, if not what does it mean.
I would be grateful for any advise before I try shooting it.
Mod - I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong are - perhaps if I have you could move it to the correct area.
Many thanks in anticipation of your help
Pat
