Staffs-Shooter
Went out this morning full of hope following my reccie yesterday. Did about 3 tours round our land before deciding @ 11 to go after some corvids on another farm about 25 miles away as not a pigeon was to be seen. Arrived & set up on a field covered in corvids 0 blasted things up sticks & moved on never to be seen again! After a short walk we spotted loads of pigeons on rape on a neighbouring farm. Off we set to see if we could find the farmer, which with the help of the farmers whose land the corvids were on, we did. Only trouble was he wasnt very keen but after some effort he said "just this once". Set up on the rape - 300-400 birds on the ground & a strong line. Half hour in & 10 birds down & guess what? The farmers son (& mate ? :( ) turn up in a 4*4 & tractor & start chissel blowing the side of the rape field. Obviously being safe shots we decided to pack up only to be greeted at the gate by two smiling to$$ers. A simple "No you cannot shoot" would have been easier. Still in off on my holidays in the morning & will return to shoot on my "known farms" B)

invector
Was it possible that the reason the farmer reluctantly agreed was because he had already scheduled work in that field?? I`ve been dodging tractors for the past week or so, but the tractor drivers have done the work right next to my hide so that I can set up again, then have continued their work across the field. Most of the time the disturbance has been minimal probably because pigeons are familiar with agricultural operations. In one instance corvids, which were pitching in on the other side of the field, were obliged to come over to me, so I gained.
Staffs-Shooter
NO it wasnt scheduled. In total there were three field of fresh cut rape. They entered the field & drove forward - stopped & looked to see which field we were in then started. Very odd
