plink
Sorry lost the origional link. http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww339/s...w2/DSCF0330.jpg This is a pic of something i have been playing with. It is actually part of my security system. Video camera is same size as red dot .003 lux with 20 deg field of view. Led array is about 200 ir led running at 25 w out to 20M. Leds were 10p. Array can be run at 50 watts out to 30 m for short periods. Illumination is a fairly well defined circle without lensing with an angle matching the camera Leds are capable of up to 250 watts pulsed which should work to 60 m but i need to think out the design for this more thouroughly . Commercial illuminators have heavy ally bodies to act as a heatsink. These arrays are on tripad boards so no track cutting needed just soldering, they are light enough to gun mount. High power leds are available but their beam width is large and only suitable for short range unless lensed. These leds are narrow angle designed for this application. The 2 boards shown use glow red leds and invisible ones at 920 nm, the glow red ones are 2-3 X better than invisible due to camera sensitivity so 3 times the no of invisible are needed for the same range.
