pete1dart
After seeing a load of pigeons on some re drilled cover crop, my dad decided to have a crack at them on Monday. I had to work but got away at 1600 and was at the farm by 1645. He set up at 1130 with only a few in the hedge. When I arrived he had 7 pigeons with only 1 missed. It didnt look promising when I arrived and he said he would sit in the car and just watch. I said I would give it an hour and see what happened. After 10 minutes the first pigeon came into the decoys, very fast over my left shoulder. Managed to drop it on the 2nd shot. Then there was a lull for 20 minutes until the next and the next and the next. It had kicked of at last! At around 1730. My dad quickly came back out the car after I had dropped 8 and we took it in turns to shoot. The cover has got maize and Millet drilled with it just starting to come through the ground. There is alot of maize on top but we cant work out which they were going for? It was really good shooting, the birds were all coming from over our left shoulder and quick. But we both shot very well. I was quite impressed with some of the birds I was taking as it has been a while since I got onto some proper decoying. We packed up at 1900 with 23 in the bag. Not a bad evening session. Dad had 12 and I had 11, he wont be outdone by the nipper!!!! Cheers Pete
