Nice Walnut for Stocks

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I posted this on another forum but thought everyone in the sport should benefit from it

Just a bit of info for anyone that is close enough to make the journey. A few months ago I phoned around timber merchants to find somewhere that stocks 2" thick walnut for rifle stocks. The only place I found was a timber merchant in Hammersmith called Moss & Co. I went there today and they have really nice walnut in stock.

The really stripy wood in the photos is 'Zebrano' Its a hard wood but not very 'stable' In other words, it may warp slightly if worked too thin and may crack but having said that there were some really nice demo pieces there too.

The pics don't do it justice really as I saw some amazingly grained pieces of wood when I was there.

The American Walnut is £90 + vat per cubic foot. You get 4 stocks from a cubic foot

The Zebrano is £140 + vat per cubic foot

I think the European walnut is the same price as the American.

Good thing is that they have so much you can choose your own pieces but the rule is that you cut a piece to get what you want then you need to leave a minimum amount. I just though people would like to know where to find some as I had trouble looking.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.
