matt*21
Put my license in for variation to change from .223 to .243 with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, and whilst going through the hassle of the forms decided to ask to get it opened it up as well. Have had the license for nearly two and half a years now and have got about a 1000 acres of land to shoot over which is cleared for all calibres. So i sent a letter with variation form stating why i need an open license to control vermin on other farms etc, as well as a letter from someone i shoot with who has had an open license for many years stating that i am a competent and safe firearm user etc. 17 weeks later after numerous phone calls to the licensing department, still no license!! So i rang up today to be told that they have decided that i cannot have an open license until i have held the license for 3 years, which is why it took so long, and that i should have it next week some time!! Am i unreasonable in thinking that as soon as they received the form and letter that they could have rang and said that there standard policy is not to open license until its been held for three years. Then they could have just sorted the variation out and sent it back to me!! Just wondering if anyone else has had there license opened up by devon and cornwall recently before the three years was up? Devon Fox
D&c are normally on the ball and speedy with variations. Do you deal with Di Porter flo? I am a mentor for a lad at the present - I have just written a letter to state he no longer needs me and that in my opinion he should have his license opened as he is a keeper and also does hedging work and it would obviously help him forfill his job. Ticket was returned within 5 days with the mentor condition removed and a letter to say they are reviewing opening the license - he has had a .223/17hmr for about 12 months I have spoken to Di and she said the amount of rounds and experience counts, we will give it another 6 months and try again - in the mean time we will keep bombarding them for ground checks as we have more land than we know what to do with - hopefully that might help force the issue! My license expired today - applied for renewal 1 month ago … fingers crossed it won't be too long a wait, normally it's taken a week give or take. Keep trying! matt*21
Yeah it puzzles me slightly, as they are obviously busy hence the reason for the wait. Now there going to have more paperwork in six months time when i try again, when they could have had it all sorted and me off their case. It would be nice if they all sung off the same hymm sheet, but half the time it seems to depend on whether you catch them on a good day. Having said all this i must say i have never had a problem with d&c before with my firearms and shotgun license, so hopefully its just a one off
Devon Fox
I am sure it's a one off - Reading variation/renewal post on pw - I think we are very fortunate with D&C! Be patient and whack through those rounds!
weejohn
I had recently sent my FAC away for a variation, i posted it on the saturday and had it back by the wednesday. We are lucky up here in scotland and dont have this closed certificate nonsense.
