Ferretboy111
Which Direction do you guys place your pegs out? Clockwise from 1-9 or anti 9-1? FB111
wy111
Ours are anti-clockwise, but just to confuse matters, we have 2 drives, back to back, so use the same pegs, which makes 1 drive, clockwise ps clockwise 1-9 is the same as anti-clockwise 9-1
bolts
We number 1, Left to 9, right facing the drive on all our drives, then move up 1 number each week.
proTOM1
We number anti 9-1 but most shoots around us are clock wise 1-
hillmouse
We always have No1 on the right and high numbers on the left. As many of my drives have back guns we go from 1 to whatever in the front rank then go from lowest number on the right to highest on the left for the back rank. Traditionally the low numbers are always at the top of the hill no matter which way the drive comes in when numbering grouse butts. When moving up 2 this saves the whole line (apart from the poor sod in No8/9) having to walk up hill to change numbers.
Kes
I have been involved with a few shoots over a number of years and each has had the same approach unusually. Numbering starting from the right (to left), facing the drive. This does however always seem to be completely indecipherable to the guns and occassionally the shoot captain. =The beaters (naturally) see the result as a good talking point, few are spared. Our longest discussions are always about who is what number and where the peg is. If we all shot as well as we differed in opinions on any given day, not a bird would be left alive at the end of the season, but it would be a bit boring !!!!
