AO lens or not?

I'm after a new scope for my CZ .22. It will mainly be used for lamping so I reckon I'll be going for 50mm with IR.

Am I right in saying that an AO lens is not worth it for the distances involved? I've not used one before but I think it would be too fiddely?

 

Currently looking at a nighteater, BSA catseye/contender, Hawke. Maximum £150 to spend.

 

Any advice greatfully received.
