wt shoot
out of interest, id be interested in who here runs a forestry shoot and what size area you have, and how many birds you put down, and what your bag on a shoot day is. i know forestry shoots are hard, one to keep the birds from wandering, two always open to the public and dog walkers etc the list goes on. Anyone have any tips on forest shoots.
ColinF
The shoot that we run includes about 200 acres of Forestry woodland. We also shoot over a large acreage of farm land which borders about half of the perimiter of the woodland. We only shoot about a 1/3rd of the woodland, which is effectively the edge which borders the rest of our shoot. Birds do wander especially later in the season, but we try to hold them by feeding heavily. Dog walkers are not so much of a problem as our wood is not that popular because there are other woods with easier access near by, so we dont get many. Without the farm land, we would not have a viable shoot as it would be too easy for the surrounding land owners to feed the birds out of the woods onto their own shoots. Your circumstances may be different, but I think that you need to be able to shoot over at least some of the surrounding land to make it work.
