bongoray
After 2 months of research, and finding no bad press to speak of, I recently bought a Howa .308 Sporter. Consequently I must say that I was surprised to read negative comments early on in this thread as they are the first that I have seen. Most reviews mention it as being the basis of the respected Weatherby Vanguards and many custom rifles of all types from target to stalking. It obviously takes a lot from the Remington 700, which it closely resembles, which can be no bad thing too! Its too early for me to report personally on its accuracy as I've only taken it to the range once after a quick set up, however the rifle feels nice.....not too heavy and the Hogue stock is to my taste. There are also lots of very nice alternative stock options such as black laminate if you want something pretty, albeit heavier. With regards to accuracy, if I recall correctly these guns are guaranteed 1 moa out of the box.....I think.....double check if needs be! I wanted a gun to carry around the woods but if I wanted a long range target gun, without getting exotic (expensive!) I would certainly have looked seriously at the varmint and had it set up properly in a suitable stock and with a quality scope. However 1" at 100yds is good enough for what I need!! Below is an intersting link and it is just one of many reports, amateur and professional, that I have come across. http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread.php?81845-Howa-1500-.308win I'm sure you won't go wrong with it.....I hope so as I'm in the same boat! Have fun! Edited April 29, 2011 by bongoray
