yankeedoodlepigeon
Hi all. I have had a conversation with my firearms officer who says I need to do 4 stalks before I can get deer added to my ticket. I was going to book it with a gamekeeper as all I was asked to do was 4 stalkes with a write up as to what I did on the stalks, what I shot, how I went about it etc.... Does it have to be an accredited stalker or anyone with access to a estate rifle? or could I do dsc1 and have it added that way? I could get access to at least three shoots with deer on if I can get this added. Plus I heard if I get deer on my ticket I would need to get dsc2 to hunt on my own which is what I want to do really. Thanks in advance Lea
apache
If you have never shot a deer before then I hope you realise there is a bit to learn about the art of stalking and spotting them, and then dealing with a large carcase to gut if nothing else. The shooting bit is the easy part! If you have access to land with deer do you know anyone local that you trust who would be able to take you out with their rifle and possibly in exchange for a couple of stalks show you the ropes? The DSC1 by doing the course and paying your money you have passed a safety test and shown an interest, the police may accept that as proof, but I don't doubt they would like some evidence of some accompanied stalking. All you are trying to show is that you have a good reason for the gun/condition and that you are safe. Deer welfare is not in their remit. If you are serious about shooting deer 4 accompanied stalks shouldn't be too much of a hardship. That and a nice letter from your 'mentor' saying how safe you are, combined with the DSC1 may get you an open cert (if your force issues restricted/closed ones!).
