adam f
Friday afternoon: One of my permissions is a golf course which I lamp for rabbits after dark, but it has a couple of decent sized woods on it that always hold good numbers of pigeon - this ia really frustating as I cant shoot it when golfers are on the course! However the only exception to this is when the course is closed due to snow.... so after a decent dusting on Thurs night I managed to finish work a few hours early and got up to the course around 4pm - I was using lofted decoys something Ive not done before and I used an old fishing pole which is 12m long to host them up the trees. This worked really well and I had birds coming in for a look even before I could get the 2nd decoy up! I only shot for an hour but sitting still under an ivy bush I managed to shoot 5 for 8 shots. Very pleased. Sat saw me attending an organised roost shoot - one I went to last year but was put off by people shooting at 80yd birds and putting them off... I thought I'd give it another crack anyway and was pleasantly surprised. To be fair I did manage to bag a spot on the front of the wood where the biirds were coming in so got a chance to shoot before they were spooked by the guns deeper in the wood. I left the higher birds to come in for the others but still managed a fair few shots... too many really but this wasnt really roost shooting more flight lining - but still managed another 5 birds - all high and fast on the wing, so pleased with the ones I did drop. And finally my puppy Meg getting used to pigeon feathers!
