caeser
This time of year is usually the really quiet period but decided to have a go on monday anyway. Spoke to the game keeper, who told me that there wasn't much about ,but maybe a few on a beanfield with a cover strip down one side of it. The beans were about 4"-6" tall. We watched the field for about half an hour, and chose a couple of spots alongside a wood to set up the hides. Not what you'd really call a flight line, but a bit of one I suppose. We set up the 2 hides about 60 yards apart to cover a wider flight line over the wood. 15 deeks out, almost in the middle of the pair of us, sat back and waited. Crows, rooks, and jackdaws seemed to be drifting about all over the place, so I walked back to the car and got 4 crow deeks to put out. At the end of the day we had 21 woodpigeon, and I've no idea how many corvids as we didn't count them. At a guess I'd say about 25. A mixture of all 3 , crows rooks and jackdaws. After we'd shot about 6 or 8 jackdaws we decided not to to shoot anymore, they were almost suicidal. The crows and rooks were a lot more wary. So all in all a successful May's shooting I think. First time into the twenties for a quite a few weeks. When driving around the area, I noticed that there is plenty of pigeon around, but in the main they're still on the clover and shrubs etc. Only to be expected.
