Blunderbust
Steve hi, I dont have any experience of the X-Bolt in 270 but I do with the 300 win mag. I have been out a few times lately mainly punching paper and getting used to it. I find that it is a reliable tool to do the job and actually had my first Roe buck this evening. I bought a moderator to go with mine due to the fact that I have a few houses on one of my permissions but to be honest with you I find it is more fun to shoot without it. I will be using mine for driven Boar abroad, large Deer stalking up in Scotland or on bought stalk days any where else. I cant say that the X-Bolt is a special rifle but for the money it is well worth it and with the right glass on top, it is more than capable. Grouping with mine is not easy, 300wm gets quite hot and I am using factory at the moment. I am using Remington core-lokt 180 gr, and found that one time I could get a 1.5 inch group of 3 rounds then if I let it cool down I then shot a cloverleaf group of 3 round. This was never consistant but have to say that the first shot from a cold barrel was always 1" above the POA. I have come home and checked a box of the rounds and found that the coal varied quite dramatically from round to round, so I believe that once I start to re-load then I might be able to get a more consitant and accurate load.
