Gimlet
Exactly, our farm cat's earn their living many times over. The number of rats and mice they kill far outweigh the number of birds they kill. We have no shortage of birds around the farm but rodents are in short supply. The problem in the real countryside is there are not enough cats. But if there were no farms with their grain stores to feed an over-populated human species there would no over-population of rodents and no need for cats. It all comes back to man. Reece
As for the use of cats for rat and mouse control, are farm cats a major problem? Most farm cats I've seen stay close to the farm and rarely go into fields, unlike pet cats which tend to roam far from home. But then again, I haven't seen that many farm cats. Is there anyone here who knows more about this than me and could comment?
