Beretta06
My certificates were both over 2 months late coming back to me. On both of them the dates matched when the old ones expired, somewhere 'backdated'. Due tot he way the systems work, if the dates are not consecutive, the computer will generate a new number - in our Force area the certs show the same number on renewals. During the 'no certificate in my hand' period I was stopped twice by the police (once with rifle, once with shotgun). They never made a fuss on either occasion. They took my name and address, radioed someone and it was confirmed I had the right to hold the guns. Personally, provided your application is in with plenty of time to spare, I don't see it as a problem. I think for folk who are yelling about temporary certificates etc (even folk like BASC, of which I am a member) are using the horrible backlog as a way to bash the police a bit. We know they are behind, we know the system creaks like my grand dad's knees, but the 'allowing us to carry on whilst things get sorted' seems the best for us all. Putting guns into storage is expensive and restrictive. Do we really want to keep yelling that the Police should make us do this whilst they clear the back log?? That they are allowing us to keep guns illegally?? I appreciate there shouldn't be a back log, but there is - be careful how loud you shout or it may work against us all :-(
