Trevor_Noad
Managed to sneak out of the house nice and early Saturday morning and got to my permission for about 6 to scout around and see what they were feeding on. I drove to 8 or 9 fields and whilst there were plenty up in the trees very little seemed to be feeding on the ground. After an hour of looking about decided to pick a rape field that had been hammered by the pigeons on the far side as the farmer had 2 gas guns and a kite in it. I turned the gas gun that was closer to me off/ took the kite down and set up under a known flight line. The little wind that there was was blowing in my face so I set up a rough horse shoe shape (half the decoys on top of the rape) and waited. The showed my self to early to the first pair that flew over but managed to bring down one of them with my second shot and so put him on a flapper at the head of the horse shoe. It was a slow morning that involved some terrible shooting including missing the one bird that properly came into the decoys as I was otherwise engaged in the bushes but ended up with 7 shot and 5 picked up. Had to pack up at 12.30 as was on kid duty but a thorougherly enjoyable morning.
